I just found explaination in http://www.debian.org/CD/ "Download CD/DVD images using HTTP or FTP. Due to space and bandwidth constraints, only very few mirrors are able to supply direct HTTP/FTP download links. These sites may use bandwidth throttling, downloads can be quite slow. Please use jigdo or bittorrent instead. DVD images are only available for some architectures and not on all mirrors." But not everyone get download URL from there when they want debian ISO images. So I think that README file in debian-cd/ mirror should be there for explain this to users. Cheers, cj -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-cd-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Umm... may be I mis-interpreted the contents of MD5SUMS and SHA1SUMS as "There are all of these ISO files here, which have these sums values that should be checked after these ISOs downloaded, before they get burned into CD/DVD/BD". So it might be my ignorant, but should there be something such as README file explain to those who looking for ISO files from debian-cd mirrors that they won't see those ISOs here, and what they should do to if they really want to get one. May be a README file at top level of debian-cd/? Cheers, cj > > For all "missing" images jigdo files are provided instead. Simply because they are very seldomly used and together would take up huge amounts of space on the mirrors. For all "missing" images jigdo files are provided instead. Using the jigdo files is not a workaround, it is the only supported method for downloading these images. If you don't want to download them using jigdo, you can check if a CD vendor sells them. Bug#572382: cdimage.debian.org: 5.0.4 CD/DVD missing for arch not amd64/i386
Package: cdimage.debian.org Hi, Based on a report from Chatchai Jantaraprim on debian-mirr...@lists.d.o. On Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 11:03:26AM +0700, Chatchai Jantaraprim wrote: > Does the contents there up-to-date? BD-1-iso is a bad example, as BluRay is not provided on purpose on cdimage.debian.org. > Other architectures seem to have more problems. > Alpha iso-cd MD5SUMS list 29 iso cds, but only 3 isos are there. All arch but amd64 and i386 only provide the first DVD and first 3 CD (except powerpc with more 6 CD): http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.4/powerpc/iso-dvd/ provides only the first DVD. Not that I am convinced debian-504-powerpc-CD-31.iso is useful to many people, but as cdimage.d.o is the reference and people really need offline media, it should certainly be made available. (or modify debian.org/CD/ to stop saying cdimage.d.o is a reference place do download files). Workaround: use mirrors which generates images themselves, from jigdo files: e.g. http://debian.advalem.net/debian-cd/ -- Simon Paillard -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-cd-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
