On Sat, 2 Jan 2016, Cyril Brulebois wrote: Hi, A friend of mine noted cdimage.debian.org was rather slow from France, and thought there might be some CDN misconfiguration. AFAICT, cdimage.debian.org is served from two IPs at acc.umu.se; would it make sense to have its contents mirrored somewhere else? Any estimate as far as size goes? In addition to those two IPs, we do http redirects for large files to offloaders, for details about the ACC mirror cluster see: http://ftp.acc.umu.se/about/ We currently shouldn't have any performance issues on our side the last few weeks, and the /debian-cd/ part of cdimage.debian.org is widely mirrored. If you are takling about the /cdimage/ area which includes the archive, daily and weekkly builds, alpha releases, snapshots for jigdo, etc the total size is 8.4TiB and the traffic is less than 10% of ftp.acc.umu.se total traffic (as opposed to 50% which is the share of /debian-cd/). It might be good to have one other site for availability in case we have a downtime, but I fear that a bunch of regular mirrors of it would take up much more bandwidth than just serving it to users. Jim, Thanks, I have updated from cvs and everything seems to be working. The problem was that I had "|local\" in my lftp exclusion list so everything with "local" in it was excluded. Fortunately it was added after potato was released. Now fixed. Phil. The first one is a (diskspace) donation from an ISP (ca. 25 Gigs). It has totally 100 Gigs space, but mainly for mirroring TUCOWS. The second one is inside a university. It has 4 IDE disks (7.5G + 7.5G + 6G + 6G) but it is used for everything (WWW and FTP). I don't know how it is elsewhere, but I observe: - not many are interested in CDROM #2 dan #3 - not many are interested in "non i386" (Poor people can not afford it :-) - many "complains" about the no "non-free" policy :-( - it is VERY difficult to install. I myself have never successfully installed X11 (without manually doing XF86Setup) and setting non-US in /etc/apt/sources.lists automatically. Therefore, I usually ask those without experience to use Corel Linux. But, updating from Corel to the official Debian is yet another problem. regards, -- Rahmat M. Hey Richard: Sorry, I have sort of been neglecting the CD cover issues because I had an intestinal flu. However, Joerg Rieger has thoughtfully mirrored the files at http://debiancover.homelinux.org/ There is no html interface for some reason, but all the files including the gimp are there. I guess that should be considered the official location of the files until such time as I get a web space of my own again. Hmm, ATM the CD web pages do not have a list of mirrors for cdimage-testing. Maybe you should start by putting a MIRRORS file in the top-level directory of the master site on farbror. Re: mirror-sync and build_all.sh (debian-cd)
Hi All, hi Frans, thanks for your time. I've came up with the same debmirror string which uses 'mirror-sync': debmirror --arch=i386 --dist=lenny --section=main,main/debian-installer --pdiff=use --method="http" --ignore-small-errors --nosource --exclude='(e/eclipse(|-.*)/.*)' --exclude='/(boson|ice.*|kde.*|koffice|python-.*|qt-x11-free|samba|wengophone)-dbg_' --exclude='/lib(boost|gl1-mesa-dri|nel|qt4|.*webkit.*|wine|wxgtk.*|xul.*|zeroc-ice.*)-dbg_' --exclude='/libqt4-debug_' -v -h ftp.nl.debian.org /media/mike2/srv/mirror/debian note the '--section=main,main/debian-installer' but when executing it, the result is: (...) " Get Packages and Sources files and other miscellany. Parse Packages and Sources files and add to the file list everything therein. Download all files that we need to get (36 MiB). Downloaded 36 MiB in 46s at 779.67 kiB/s Everything OK. Moving meta files. Cleanup mirror. All done. " and the initrd.gz file is still missing. Thanks for your help, have a nice evening. Re: mirror-sync and build_all.sh (debian-cd)
Hi Frans, brilliant! I confirm that with this string debmirror downloads also the d-i images, the docs and the tools: debmirror --rsync-extra=doc,tools --arch=i386 --dist=lenny --section=main,main/debian-installer --method="http" --ignore-small-errors --nosource --exclude='(e/eclipse(|-.*)/.*)' --exclude='/(boson|ice.*|kde.*|koffice|python-.*|qt-x11-free|samba|wengophone)-dbg_' --exclude='/lib(boost|gl1-mesa-dri|nel|qt4|.*webkit.*|wine|wxgtk.*|xul.*|zeroc-ice.*)-dbg_' --exclude='/libqt4-debug_' -v -h ftp.nl.debian.org --di-dist=dists --di-arch=arches which can be used with debian-cd to create a NETINST image, a CD image and so on. Note that I've used the sid version of debmirror ( version 1:2.4.3 ) because in my understanding the lenny one ( version 20070123lenny1 ) does not have the "--di-dist" and the "--di-arch" options. Thank you again for this powerful tool and for supporting it. Re: mirror admins.. why you want to use make-pseudo-image..
Or better yet, a script that automatically downloads the latest .list files, and a config file with a commented out list of sites to use. Then you just have to delete the comment for a site you prefer (or add on yourself if you have a better one not listed), and bam! You're making your images. Making the pseudo-image kit more convenient would encourage more bandwidth-rich people to use it, and presumably would benefit anyone supplying the data. Tcl/Tk is available on cygwin, so it should be possible to have a portable graphical front-end for the Kit to be used by lazy people. But since I don't have any experience in writing graphical things and/or using Tcl/Tk (and don't plan to get that experience anytime soon), there won't be such a thing unless someone else writes it. I think the main problem would be interfacing with the shell scripts and executables like rsync (capturing and processing their output), but I wouldn't mind anyone adapting things for that purpose, or even writing something better entirely from scratch. The concept of using .list files to create a pseudo-image is very simple and there are endless possibilities to implement it. I consider the Kit in its current form to be just an example implementation; you could write an ftp/http retreiver in C, add relevant bits of rsync and a simple textmode menu, and you'd probably have something more efficent and usable that what's available now. I'd be delighted to hear about such things ;-) Regards, Anne Bezemer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
