Regarding gnome there is still a grave bug on gdm3 wrt systemd-logind
in GNU/Linux I have tried to report, making it unusable on up till now
three boxes upgraded (and subsequently replaced by lightdm and xfce4).
Maybe we should have a discussion about default desktop system too.

I tried to reopen bug #727708 but failed, and have to find the time to
submit a new bug report. Problem is that in order to submit a bug
report with report-bug you need a working desktop, but when gdm3 is
buggy, how to report when it is no longer installed.

Just my few cents as a _very_ frustrated (no longer) gnome user.
