 smpeg-xmms (0.3.5-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * This version extra-specially uploaded with only an hppa binary. How do you
like them apples, i386-only people? Your turn to wait!
   * New upstream version (Closes: Bug#128660)
   * debian/control: change build-depends to libsmpeg-dev = 0.4.4-7, since
that's the release that links libstdc++ into smpeg
   * src/Makefile.am: Modify libsmpeg_xmms_la_LIBADD macro to remove SDL
 libraries and use only SMPEG_LIBS_FOR_PLUGINS
+ This makes sure that Xv and its ilk's non _pic.a friends don't get
linked in alongside the _pic.a variants of the libraries.
   * Run libtoolize -f -c, so libtool doesn't assume we're using libc 2.1.1
(since it doesn't recognise things like mips and m68k) and bail out on
 us. (Closes: Bug#127969)

 libmyodbc - MySQL ODBC driver
Changes:
 myodbc (2.50.37-6) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Change package name: myodbc is a plugin, not a normal shared
library, and versioned package names are an inconvenience.
   * Likewise, disable building of static libs, and remove header files
from the package, since nothing uses them.
   * Move .so file to /usr/lib/odbc, and remove dh_makeshlibs reference.
   * Fix aclocal.m4 to look for $ac_header instead of $ac_hdr, since
the name has changed w/ autoconf 2.5. Fixes build on arm, ia64,
 hppa, and mips, at least.
   * Remove --with-odbc-ini argument to configure, only needed when using
 the internal ini-file handling.
   * Oh, and while we're at it, add support to debian/rules for
 cross-compiling packages.

much prefer to use Debian than RH.

IBM needs a company to out-source support and warranty, so Debian
can't be a partner in the regular sense, like SuSE, Caldera or
RedHat. We can't give out warranty, we even can't sign a contract
saying that somebody will look at the problem not later than 24 hours
after the report.

There is, however, discussion going to join some partner program with
IBM for the S/390 through a German company that partners with IBM and
also with Debian. Check the partners page of Debian for Trustsec (not

One would think that this is definitely serious.

Oh and BTW, Slackware released an update today. Without trolling, I can
say that I was honestly surprised to note that Debian, a distro with
~850 developers and a dedicated security team, is behind Slackware on
 security issues.

Glibc always is a difficult problem.

 1. It takes ages to build packages and they need to be build on
currently six architectures (11 when woody is out).

 2. Glibc is the most important package. If something in the security
update causes glibc to fail, imagine what will happen to all those
systems that just have updated their glibc due to a security
upload. Even if they should manage to get their system working
again, it will take use *days* to provide fixed packages.

 3. Glibc is a beast that not many people want to deal with. All
glibc problems I know of have been dealt by the Security Team
*together* with the glibc maintainer. Both parties are busy
people as well.

 4. Supporting one or two architectures is way easier than supporting
six architectures.

 5. Because of that, we have to be extraordinary careful. This takes
time.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are doing what we can. Providing
patches and test reports are always welcome, but advisories for the
kernel and glibc will probably continue to take more time than usual.

Regards,

Joey

 templates
are not translated or in only one language. IMO these maintainers
 either do
not want their templates to be translated, or do not know what to do
 with these
translated templates. In the latter case, adding into bugreports step

 instructions could help.

I would like to ask why these translations are filed as bug reports,
with the translation pasted in the middle of mail.

Is it really safe to do so (e.g. does sending it via e-mail
guarantee that the character set is preserved rightly)?

I am a bit worried, because I don't know if (for example) a
portuguese translation is rightly represented, and I didn't
re-code the characters in a wrong way.

And yes, a step-by-step instruction would be nice. :P

No, it's often not safe, and it's a big PITA too, to have to save the
whole thing to a file and edit it. Translators should send attachments.

Of course, maybe the BTS and/or bug reporting tools are at fault here
for not supporting attachments?

And yes, a step-by-step instruction would be nice. :P

a. Receive translation.
b. Save to file named debian/templates.ll in your package, where ll
is the language code. It might occasionally be of the form ll_LL
(pt_BR); you can find the right code by looking for a Description-ll:
line in the translated templates. The translator should also tell you
   what the code is, probably.
c. Run debconf-getlang --stats debian/templates debian/templates.* to
see stats about how up-to-date every translation of the templates
   file is.
d. Make sure your rules file contains a call to dh_installdebconf[1].
e. Build, test, upload.

I had heard discussion to that effect, but the last time I tried to send
a PGP-signed message from mutt to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the system had
trouble parsing the MIME boundaries. So if attachments are supported,
they at least don't seem to be supported when submitting a bug -- and
when you have a patch to send, it's still a lot easier to include the
patch inline than it is to send mail to open a bug report, wait for the
bug #, then send a second mail with the patch as an attachment...

If I'm just having troubles because I'm doing something wrong here, I'd
be happy if someone could set me straight.

Bzzz, wrong assumption. You should have read the code. The warning you
cite can be the result of other problems, and it also can be a
non-problem. The last is the case with catdvi, which your list
includes.

The line in catdvi that gets this warning is

  if ((b = DVI_set_char_0)  (b = DVI_set_char_127))

Now, DVI_set_char_0 happens to be defined as 0, and I could have in
principle omitted the test, but I prefer this formulation as it is IMHO
clearer. In the above code, b is declared as a byte, which is in turn
a typedef for unsigned char.

in some way. When I try to compile any program using SDL and OpenGL, the

My first guess would be that your GL Driver is somehow broken.
Memory protection should make it impossible for the next program to read
the display of the previous program.
If your GL Driver fails to initialize it's video memory, this can easily
happen.
Which GL Driver do you use? Mesa? Or that buggy memory-eating nvidia
driver i'm running (well, geforce2go didn't run with the nv driver, and
sometimes armagetron is just fun ;)
If you are running the nvidia driver, do try software GL. If it works
there, it's probably not SDLs fault.
