Re: samba crashing in debian etch
yeah, i can report the bug, but there will be no stack trace, although samba-dbg is supported to supply these? In order to alert the people that are most likely to be able to help you, it would be best if you filed a bug report for the samba Debian package. You could do this either via the "reportbug" program that is likely installed on your Debian system guides you through the process or send a mail that takes the form described at http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting If you're unsure how to put together such a the mail, you could also use "reportbug -p" and cut and paste its output. samba crashing in debian etch
Hi. I have recently installed debian etch from scratch, but samba is crashing. I have installed the samba-dbg package but i'm not getting a stack trace in the samba panic-action. Have i done anything wrong? I get this e-mail: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 3711 (/usr/sbin/smbd). This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault. Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log files may contain additional information about the problem. If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to Debian. For information about the procedure for submitting bug reports, please see http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting or the reportbug(1) manual page. Bug#363486: dpkg: [update-alternatives] New categories for: WORD, EXCEL, MEDIA-PLAYER etc.
an off-topic question: why x-office-word, x-office-excel, etc? are these trying to express "the replacement for microsoft windows word, excel" ? or is this what text documents or spreadsheet documents being called? -- Fred On 6/12/06, Margarita Manterola <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: On 6/12/06, Jari Aalto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Is there any coordinated effort to standardize the name of the provided > programs in /etc/alternatives? I don't think this concerns debian-policy at all. The use of alternatives is something that needs to be coordinated amont the maintainers of packages. It's not a question of policy or of dpkg. So, in order to have an alternative link for x-word-processor or x-spreadsheet, you need to file wishlist bugs against the packages that would be involved, and then have the maintainers agree with each other what to do. But, before doing so, it would be a good idea to discuss about this on debian-devel. I suggest you post the original proposal to debian-devel, explaining the full rationale on why you want this, what would need to be changed, what would be the benefits for the users and what would be the maintainers' resposibilities. -- Besos, Marga -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I had the same happen when trying to install the nvidia development packages: porter:~# apt-get install nvidia-glx-dev Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: nvidia-glx-dev: Depends: xlibmesa-gl-dev but it is not going to be installed or libgl-dev Depends: xlibmesa-glu-dev but it is not going to be installed or libglu-dev E: Broken packages porter:~# -- Fred On 7/26/05, Frederico Rodrigues Abraham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi.
