Maybe it doesn't, and just handles gesture recognition in the driver? xf86-input-multitouch use mtdev library[0]. This library get kernel MT events and converts to protocol of typeB. I already ITP mtdev and this is in new queue. BTW, xf86-input-multitouch works in my environment. I want to maintain this till evdev which supported multitouch is installed in Debian.
