Yes it is the most recent version.
I believe it does make sense to package current version (even though not
recently released) if you need the functionality it provides.
As far as I'm aware there are no alternatives whatsoever.

Besides I have impression that there were no updates since 2009 because it
still works pretty well. It's not so rare to have pretty useful software that
wasn't updated for few years.

I've made the package because I'm using it at the moment and it would be silly
to bury the effort that may be useful for someone else. Gentoo and Fedora are
already shipping seekwatcher. IMHO it is quite useful.

To certain degree I share your concerns for software that got no upstream
updates lately. Is it dead? I don't know. I reckon we'll find out till release
of Jessie.

The package appears to be ready so you're very welcome to try it.

Without checking myself, is this actually the most recent upstream
version? Does it make sense to package such an old version?

Cheers,

Adrian

Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-devel@lists.debian.org

   Package name: seekwatcher
Version: 0.12+hg20091016-1
Upstream Author: Chris Mason
URL: https://oss.oracle.com/~mason/seekwatcher/
