[Ivan Adams] > Can you explain what do you mean? Thanks allot As Jacob said, what you have isn't really RAID. It's software RAID (meaning, all the work is done on the host CPU, not on the IDE chip), which loads a BIOS extension so that it works automatically in MS-DOS and derivatives. The Windows driver is also software RAID. If you paid extra money for the "RAID" feature, someone cheated you. :( See http://linux.yyz.us/sata/faq-sata-raid.html for more information. Unless you need to access the same RAID configuration between Linux and some other OS, like Windows XP, you are best off ignoring the "RAID" features and running the card purely as an IDE controller. (You can set up native Linux software RAID, same as you would with any other set of IDE disks.) If you *do* need to share a RAID partition with a legacy OS, see questions 8 and 9 on the web page above. As far as I know, Debian doesn't have tools packaged for either solution mentioned. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Thanks allot What motherboards call RAID is really a tricky way to make Windows see and use software RAID. You will probably want to Google about "software raid" in Linux for more info. I'm sure there's a couple tutorials about it out there. HTH, Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Little help about Intel865PERLL with ICH5
Hi, I have Intel865PERLL with ICH5 and I need to make SATA RAID to work. I have made the Enhanced Mode in Raid BIOS, but no one (debian) kernel didn't saw it property. Even now I am with Knoppix 3.8 and it saw it wrong. I have Debian Sid cd1 and Debian Sarge cd1 and Debian Sarge Netinstall and also Debian Stable (7 discs). Can someone help me howto make it work. Here something from my logs: [EMAIL PROTECTED] fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System Disk /dev/sdb: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System lspci :00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface (rev 02) :00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82865G/PE/P PCI to AGP Controller (rev 02) :00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI #1 (rev 02) :00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI #2 (rev 02) :00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI #3 (rev 02) :00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI #4 (rev 02) :00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) :00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801 PCI Bridge (rev c2) :00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) LPC Bridge (rev 02) :00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) Ultra ATA 100 Storage Controller (rev 02) :00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB (ICH5R) SATA (cc=RAID) (rev 02) :00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) SMBus Controller (rev 02) :00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) :01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] (rev 01) :01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] (Secondary) (rev 01) :02:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Lucent Microelectronics FW323 (rev 61) :02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller (rev 01) cat /proc/partitions major minor #blocks name 8 0 78150744 sda 816 78150744 sdb 240 01939136 cloop0 ...
