I hope not, fwiw. Speaking only for myself (as the admin team haven't had a chance to discuss this issue yet) I can't see us shutting down alioth-lists.debian.net any time soon. I do acknowledge that we should be providing some sort of statement given that we said the situation would be reviewed after a release cycle and I will try and coordinate that soon. >From a practical point of view I'd say its future as long as Mailman 2 is supported in Debian (ie until the end of buster's support) is pretty secure. We need to discuss whether we want to migrate to mailman 3 (or something else) but I see no reason in principle that the service shouldn't stay as long as it has a purpose. As others have said I don't think there is any need to change email addresses in maintainer fields at the this stage, so I don't think this lintian warning is appropriate. Cheers Dominic (one of the alioth-lists admins)

I hope not, fwiw. As I understood its not going away. I understood the lintian warning that its jist an issue to mention the old alioth list address requesting a rename to alioth-lists.debian.net. My point is that I do not want to replace the old alioth list name by the new one which seems to me simply a cosmetical change for no good use - at least if the maintainer address is used in applications that are dealing with sets of packages that should have all the same maintainer. New lintian warning: mailing-list-obsolete-in-debian-infrastructure Debian Med Packaging Team
Hi, today I've seen the first time this new lintian warning: mailing-list-obsolete-in-debian-infrastructure Debian Med Packaging Team I wonder whether we could this set from severity Warning to Pedandic. The point is that this address works not only as maintainer but rather as key in several infrastrutural use case like database queries etc. The only reason that would convince me that a change is needed would be that the redirect to alioth-lists.debian.net would not work any more at some foreseable point of time. So please note: I would not mind about automatically replacing that address with something non-obsolete since we try to do some turnover of all (about 1000) Debian Med packages per release. But once we start this change several tools will stop working reliably. This is to much effort for something that looks cosmetical in my eyes. So if you insist that this should be at severity warning I'll probably rather add a lintian override automatically for all our packages rather than automatically change the maintainer address.
