No intend to package vbox
Hi, here at work we are going to use vbox. Since there is no Debian package already I wonder if somebody has interest in packaging it. I don't feel much interest but need for it so I would appreciate if s/o else would step forward. Regards, Joey -- orgatech - Ihr Partner in Sachen Internet

As Ruud reminded me isdnutils contains a vbox, but a quite old version. What we need is vbox 2 beta 4. It is available via ftp and should probably be included in the isdnutils package or packaged up separately. Currently I have difficulties detecting a source URL but the file is called vbox2b4*. Ah, finally found it: ftp://ftp.netwave.de/pub/linux/drivers/isdn/vbox2b4.tar.gz Regards, Joey PS: It seems to be included in SuSE 5.2 -- orgatech - Ihr Partner in Sachen Internet

What we need is vbox 2 beta 4. As far as I can see isdnutils-3.0-8 includes vbox 2.0.0 beta 5, which is a little bit newer than vbox 2 beta 4 with the following changes: | ** | Changes since 2.0.0 Beta 4 | ** | | 31-Mar-98 | = | | [Rel] 2.0.0 beta 5 released. | | 26-Mar-98 | = | | [New] src/libvbox.h | src/modem.c | src/modem.h | src/voice.c | src/voice.h | src/vbox.c | |SUSPEND support for newer Hisax (only 2.1.X kernel in the moment) > PS: It seems to be included in SuSE 5.2 And it is included in Debian 2.1 ;-) Tscho Roland -- * [EMAIL PROTECTED] * http://www.rhein.de/~roland/ * PGP: 1024/DD08DD6D 2D E7 CC DE D5 8D 78 BE 3C A0 A4 F1 4B 09 CE AF

I was thinking of the following packages: isdnutilscontains the basic isdnctrl, ipppd stuff needed for networking isdnmonitoring isdnlog, imon, xisdnload, ... that sort of thing isdndocs the faqs and other docs isdnvbox vbox If anyone has better suggestions (I haven't really thought hard about this yet) I'd like to hear them (please include reasoning). Sound reasonable. > isdnvbox vbox Hmmm, maybe this should be split into two packages, the vboxgetty and vboxd on the one hand and the vbox client on the other hand. What I want to say is, that there should be some chance to install only the vbox client on a machine without the need to install a complete isdn subsystem. 'isdnmon' is probably a better name than 'isdnmonitoring'. also, i've been meaning to submit a bug report about the following: one thing that would be really great would be if isdnutils could be upgraded WITHOUT taking down any running ippp connections. it's a bit difficult to upgrade isdnutils on a remote server when your only way of getting to is via an ssh session over the ippp0 link. the ssh package used to have a similar problem - all ssh sessions were terminated when the package was upgraded...which meant i needed a telnet daemon running in order to safely upgrade ssh (which defeated part of the purpose of using ssh). anyway, take a look at how ssh solved that problem...there may be useful ideas in there for you. you want me to submit a real bug report or is this message enough to get it added to your TODO list ? craig -- craig sanders

Yeah, except I have this feeling there's some program called isdnmon out there, in which case it's confusing. > also, i've been meaning to submit a bug report about the following: > > one thing that would be really great would be if isdnutils could be > upgraded WITHOUT taking down any running ippp connections. it's a bit There's already a wishlist bug outstanding on this topic (#29255).
