I use something like this in the gbp.conf:

[DEFAULT]
builder = /home/mzagrabe/bin/git-pdebuild
upstream-branch = master
debian-branch = debian
upstream-tag= v%(version)s

-mz

As far as i know, git-buildpackage can build the .orig from an
"upstream" git branch. You would need to pull the changes from upstream
to that branch though.

Not what you mean -- although there is pristine-tar to enable one to
discard the actual tarball and recreate it from git later.

You should probably read the thread starting here:

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2012/05/msg00828.html

as you can see, you're not the first to think that. It seems like a
pretty good idea, if the issues can be solved.

Cheers, Phil.

Packaging entirely via git

2012-06-12 Thread Enrico Weigelt

Hi folks,

is there already a way for maintaining debian packages entirely
with git - without the orig tarball ?

As more and more projects are moving to git, this IMHO would make
things easier for those projects.

I'm currently (re)packaging wwwoffle, and optimially I'd just like
to push a signed tag (to the debianized branch) and let the
machinery run ;-)
