A message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] of this format: close $(bugnumber) thanks will close a bug. Only submitters or maintainers should close a bug as noted in the docs.

Yes, but also anyone, including the submitter, spammers, joe public etc can email [EMAIL PROTECTED] to close a bug as well. The BTS doesn't care. I think the maintainer would easily notice abusers, so it's better to have it this way rather than having complex authentication methods. -- Sam.
