I think the theory is that a non-technical user who reports a bug
might not be interested in reading a lot of mail where scary geeks
throw incomprehensible jargon at each other while they figure out
how to fix the problem.

On the other hand, I do not think that most of the bugs in our BTS are
reported by non-technical users.

AIUI, that's where <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> comes in handy. You
could send the email to the bug via that alias and then CC the person
you're discussing the patch with.

I sometimes consider it useful. For instance, when someone has submitted
a patch to the bug, and I am discussing the patch with this individual,
and not the original submitter of the bug report.

I consider this a bug in the software. It's awkward not to receive some
communications on a bug you submitted.

Not that this really matters for the points in this discussion, but just
for the record, messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] get forwarded to the
package maintainer.

Agreed.

I'd consider this a bug in the software, the principle of least surprise
would suggest that one gets copied on updates to bugs one submits. I've
seen this on every BTS I've encountered and it makes sense to do so. Of
course it should be easy to unsubscribe.

Note, however, that you can explicitly subscribe to the bug to get
everything; send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

You'll only get mails if the sender sends to ###-submitter. Mail sent to just
### is not forwarded, and only stored.

This is not a bug in the software, but in the person sending the mail.
