Just for the record APT never writes the status file, only reads it. The user problem has managed to hold the package in dselect to get that in the status file. Jason

I was originally using dselect, and then I changed to apt when I upgraded to slink. I wonder how it came to be changed like this? And would it be a good modification anyway?
