Bug#749397: dpkg-dev: Does not fail on applying a patch included upstream

Sorry, the logic there was wrong. I'll change the code to try each
patch, if the first one applies, then apply them all, otherwise try
each other and as long as none applies, ignore that as assuming they
are already applied, but if a single patch applies when the previous
ones all failed, then abort because there's something fishy. Which
should also have no performance impact on the normal case, as
unpacking should succeed when applying the first patch.

Did you apply this change to dpkg-source ?

I have a case [1] where a change to upstream source is not detected. The
change was done by applying a patch from debian/patches. Once this change is
archived, dpkg-source does not detect the change and does not apply the patch.

I don't mind this behavior, but dpkg-source should emit a message that mention
a skipped patch.

All the best

Bug#32877: 2-way conf file merge is applied on lcdproc package

2015-02-15 Thread Dominique Dumont
Hello

For the record, a 3-way configuration file merge is currently deployed
with lcdproc package using dh_cme_upgrade (which uses Config::Model
and cme). [1] and [4]

Implementation details are provided in [2]

This approach can be applied to other packages even if cme is not a silver
bullet: some work is required to use cme upgrade on configuration files.

A lot of work was done for lcdproc to provide a complete configuration model
that provide both upgrade and a configuration editor [3]. I believe that work
can be reduced if only configuration upgrade is desired: such a model needs
less details.

Feel free to contact me for more details.

All the best

Bug#617299: I hit this same problem building custom kernel

2012-04-10 Thread Dominique Brazziel
Per the 'Debian Linux Kernel Handbook' chapter 'Common kernel-related
tasks'
I tried:

make KDEB_PKGVERSION=1.0_xxx deb-pkg

and the build went OK until the final step(s) to produce the
image .deb file:

dpkg-deb: building package `linux-headers-3.2.12' in
`../linux-headers-3.2.12_1.0-interatom_i386.deb'.
dpkg-deb: building package `linux-libc-dev' in
`../linux-libc-dev_1.0-interatom_i386.deb'.
dpkg-deb: building package `linux-image-3.2.12' in
`../linux-image-3.2.12_1.0-interatom_i386.deb'.
dpkg-deb (subprocess): data member: internal gzip write error: 'No space
left on device'
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess compress from tar -cf returned error exit
status 2
make[1]: *** [deb-pkg] Error 2
make: *** [deb-pkg] Error 2
Command exited with non-zero status 2

This was the first time I tried this method, I've been using
make-kpkg for years without a problem. Like the OP, my /tmp
size was low, 200 megabytes to be precise. The 200M was derived from
the value of '/etc/default/tmpfs' as 20% of RAM, but that value used to
be 50% IIRC. The make-kpkg method had no problem with 20%, but with
that method one can specify to build the image only, but the 'deb-pkg'
target apparently builds header and libc6-dev packages without one
asking for them and this may have something to do with lots of
additional space being allocated.

Even after specifying env TMPDIR='/huge/harddrive/directory' the
dpkg-deb space seemed to hang/loop at the same place, though no message
regarding space was emitted, so that may have been a different problem.
In any event, more verbose messages seem warranted.

Bug#198339: Iris you to see this great Christmas gift.

2007-12-19 Thread Dominique
Hey there, hows things? I'm about to advise you about something, something that
you surely need to learn about. I'll hurry up get straight to the reason
behind this email.

Unfortunately current research indicates that less than twenty five percent of
all women can reach their sexual high by just making love (they require a
little tickle;).This in fact means that a majority of women are left totally
dissatisfied. You may believe that you are rocking her world in the bedroom but
the truth be told, you probably arent even getting close! Do not worry though,
we have a solution to the problem.

Go on and take a look -

Bug#443535: start-stop-daemon: should offer an option for ionice

2007-09-22 Thread Dominique Dumont
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.14.6
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hello

I use start-stop-daemon to launch hellanzb which can sometimes be very
io intensive (with par2 and unrar)

It would be great if I could launch hellanzb with ionice -c idle
through start-stop-daemon. Could you add an option --ioniceclass or
--ionicelevel ?

Thanks
