Some packages (ab)use s-s-d to invoke a binary under a different account without creating syslog entries that might be confusing to users, and when that binary returns an exit code, we'd like to see it. If it does not support daemonization and we are using s-s-d's background option then we can only get the exit code if we keep the parent s-s-d running and waiting for the child, and then I don't understand why we would want to use the background option.
