If you select a standalone installation, you should get an instance that would be easy to copy the package into it using scp or wget (from the inside of the virtual machine, that is). To build the package, you need a debian machine with all the build dependencies installed. Any Debian/Etch machine will do, and use 'apt-get build-dep debian-edu-artwork' to install them. You can work with the checkout as if this are normal files. (Or what else do you mean with preview? Also, I do not really like the list of contributors on the front. First of all, it is not a complete list, and it not a correct list for the sarge based version either. And I suspect the area is better spent talking positive about skolelinux/Debian Edu, to save us the effort of trying to make it accurate. If you could point me in the direction of some good content to put here i would be very grateful as I'm not the best writer in the world and don't know a huge amount about the project. I would also need some text to go on the back too. If anyone can help with this please let me know and i'll start updating the design. I would love to have a kdm login screen that made it more obvious that the installation is a Skolelinux/Debian Edu installation. I managed to rip out the Kubuntu logo, but were unable to insert a replacement. The debian-edu-artwork package got the current images. I have added my attempt at a login screen onto the debianEdu team artwork pages[1]. I don't know what the current one looks like so this one could well be worse than what you have already. I have also added a quick wallpaper that fits in with the rest of the work ive done so far. I am really sad to say that this program is no longer included, as it is missing in Debian/etch (lack of maintainence). If the DVD cover is to be used for the etch based version, the version number would be 3.0, I believe. It might be a good idea to make the 'Debian Edu' make as prominent as the Skolelinux name, as it is just a different name for the same thing. It was mainly just for some sample work for my portfolio as i know you dont sell CD's but i thought it was worth submitting as it could be used by vendors that are selling SkoleLinux. www.skolelinux.no - Norwegian site in new public beta
Hello everyone. The board of Fri programvare i skolen (FRISK) have for some time now been working on getting a new version of the Skolelinux-project webpages ready for public display. After getting content from the wiki lifted over and the massive graphical help of James Herrington over the past two weeks we have a norwegian edition ready and in public beta. The page can be viewed at www.skolelinux.no. We are currently working on getting the content w3c-compliant, and publishing relevant information to newcomers and decision-makers in norwegian. Links to the wiki, further readings etc are kept and will be a part of the pages permanent so that people with interest in the development can get in touch with the project. The Developer gathering in Trondheim in june (1.-3.) will include a workshop focusing on the new pages, mainly on brushing up content and getting a final edition out of the door. An english edition should be expected in public beta at the end of may or during the gathering in Trondheim. We greatly encourage participation from anyone interested in putting a polished and "sales"-styled webpage online. Yesterday I did a workstation install and wasnt asked for a root password. So none was set and I couldnt log in remotely (which is good), only after loggin in at the console and setting a root-password there, I could login remotely. I wonder if this also happens with the i386 dvd, the i386 cd and the amd64 cd. In the same line I wonder if the i386 CD (which has NETINST in its filename) behaves differently than powerpc... I had a look, and found the emails queued on maintainer.s.n because /dev/random was running out of entropy. I created some activity (build a few packages) to generate entropy, and this seem to have fixed the problem. The queue is now empty. I got for every change you made an email... the last days there where ~70 Mails in my debian-edu inbox.
