Bug#740151: debian-edu-install: Traditional Chinese interface shows garbage character
[Petter Reinholdtsen] We need to figure out exactly which character(s) is missing, and update the installer to include them in its font. I had a look at the image and the debian/po/zh_TW.po, which I believe is the translation file in question, and suspect the problem might be gone when the translation was updated some time in the past. Please let us know if you still see the problem. The problematic translation seem to be 'Workstation', which I suspect is translated to: 工作站 Another line in zh_TW.po look like this: msgstr Debian Edu 工作站(Workstation) Looking at the history, I find this one: msgstr 漫遊工作站(Workstation) It look fairly similar to the failing string in the URL: http://www.goodhorse.idv.tw/files/skolelinux.jpg image. In that case, I suspect '漫' (aka the byte stream 0xE6 0xBC 0xAB in UTF-8) is the problematic character. It is still used in the translation file, but I do not know if it is included in the d-i font now. I'm unable to navigate through the installation my self in Tranditional Chinese, so I need someone that understand the language to verify if the problem exist or not. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-edu-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Auto-generate debian/changelog from Git commit history
Hi all, I would like to suggest some Git specific handlings in our development workflow now that we have migrated most D-E projects to Git: 1. Make sure you always do git pull --rebase. This will keep the commit history in order, even if we pull from origin while we already have local commits in our local working copy. The --rebase option can be put into ~/.gitconfig [1] 2. Let's drop the habit of accompanying an entry to debian/changelog with each Git commit. This makes rebasing very hard (because every rebase step will very likely let pop up a conflict in debian/changelog). 3. Let's use Git history to compose our later debian/changelog stanza instead. With such an approach the debian/changelog file gets created just before the upload to unstable (the tool git dch --auto will be the uploader's friend). With such an approach (auto-generate debian/changelog just before upload) we ease our daily work with Git. Tasks like branching off, merging in branches, rebasing, non-merge pulls, etc. become much smoother. Comments? Input? That's why I adjusted testsuite/cups to look for this daemon. The modified test shows 'success' exept for 'www:631'. Wolfgang signature.asc Description: Digital signature

[Mike Gabriel] Hi all, Hi. Thank you for the warning! my diskless workstations (on Debian Edu wheezy + backports, TJENER is squeeze-lts) cannot launch pulseaudio when I use a latest 3.14 kernel. We are hit by this bug, reported to the Ubuntu bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1183398 Any ideas how to solve this? Perhaps someone can provide a strace for the failing process, to allow us to know exactly what failed in the kernel? Is there a similar Debian bug report? Re: Auto-generate debian/changelog from Git commit history
[Mike Gabriel] Hi all, I would like to suggest some Git specific handlings in our development workflow now that we have migrated most D-E projects to Git: I'm positive to try out such workflow, but have no experience with it myself. I agree that we should look at our workflow now that almost all our packages are in git. :) 1. Make sure you always do git pull --rebase. This will keep the commit history in order, even if we pull from origin while we already have local commits in our local working copy. The --rebase option can be put into ~/.gitconfig [1] If I am not mistaken, this will make working on feature branches and merging branches from contributors harder, as the next 'git pull' for the contributor after a commiter merged and rebased the contributors branch will cause problems. Is this really something we want? One thing is rebasing local changes not yet pushed anywhere, but if one pull from one repository and want to push it into the official repository, I suspect rebasing is the wrong thing to do. Why is keeping the commit history in order required? 2. Let's drop the habit of accompanying an entry to debian/changelog with each Git commit. This makes rebasing very hard (because every rebase step will very likely let pop up a conflict in debian/changelog). In ltsp we adopted the method of commiting changes and changelog entries separate, to make merging easier. I guess it is an alternative if we want to ease merging between branches. It will not affect rebasing, I suspect. 3. Let's use Git history to compose our later debian/changelog stanza instead. With such an approach the debian/changelog file gets created just before the upload to unstable (the tool git dch --auto will be the uploader's friend). I have not tested this approach myself, and am unsure how good its changelog will look. With such an approach (auto-generate debian/changelog just before upload) we ease our daily work with Git. Tasks like branching off, merging in branches, rebasing, non-merge pulls, etc. become much smoother. These features definitely sound like something we should aim for. I am just unsure if advantages outweigh the negative consequences. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-edu-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Please be verbose whether you would like to get your Blend promoted by tasksel
Hi, yesterday I joined the videostream of the installer BoF at DebConf[1]. I also became a bit involved via IRC. Joey Hess raised the question about the criteria to add a Blend or not. I answered all in the list of the bug report #758116 which IMHO fits the criterion of actively maintained and some valuable content for users. I think it should be also a criterion that the team behind the Blend confirms that they are interested and so I'm hereby pinging all lists in question to ask you for confirmation. I have set Reply-To to the bug report and the general Blends list in case you are interested in further discussion with other Blends. Any input is welcome to make sure users will realise the fruits of your great work at the earliest point in time. Kind regards Andreas. [Petter Reinholdtsen] I suspect it is better to do this as a separate udeb, say desktop-chooser, which when pulled into debian-installer will ask for what desktop to use. I wrote a udeb proposal for this and put it in the d-i git repository. See URL: https://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2013/06/msg00256.html for the proposal and code.
