I remember something about the undocumnted.7 manual page being
obsolete. Check policy to see if it is still needed.

You are right, debian now frowns on this behavior, I deleted the
undocumented links.
(I did not find it in the policy manual, but only in man dh_undocumented)
Furthemore, the policy told me that missing man pages are considered as
a bug, so a new bug has been filed in bugs.sk.no (#1030)

About policy and compatibility of debian-edu-config, lintian told me that :

W: debian-edu-config source:
package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version 1
- should we use 4 compat file stamp ?

W: debian-edu-config source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.6.1
- shall-we put more recent standards-version ? current policy version
is 3.6.2.2.

- added /etc/default/backdoor empty file (with explanations)

The backdoor system have a problem and should probably be fixed before
it is better documented. It can make upgrades hang, I believe,
because the background script isn't closing all the file descriptors.

Ok, but the /etc/default/backdoor file will certainly not change since
this init script grew better ...

I found #783 : http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=783
for this issue, but it is closed. If the bug is still here, we should
reopen it.

I have an idea for this issue. If it is still there I will try it and
commit it if it work :
$man ssh
... ...
-N Do not execute a remote command. This is useful for just
forwarding ports (protocol version 2
 only).
  -T Disable pseudo-tty allocation.
... ...

- added lintian-override about xconf_boot errors on lintian

I believe the correct fix is to add support for the missing
arguments, aka accept the arguments and write error messages when they
are used, Or perhaps remove the script if it is no longer needed.

ok, done.

The rest of the changes looked good. :)

Thanks, and see you soon :)

Regards,

Benjamin

Changes on debian-edu-config

2006-01-29 Thread Benjamin Sonntag
Hi all,

during my travel back to Paris, I made some changes on debian-edu-config
repository :

- added manpages for some binaries (I will surely continue for others if
this part is ok.)
- added automatic managment of binaries' manpages (or link to
undocumented.7.gz)
- added /etc/default/backdoor empty file (with explanations)
- added informations in the README
- added lintian-override about xconf_boot errors on lintian
- added a new kind of file (CFBINFILES) in Makefile for binaries in
/etc/cfengine/ (lintian complained on them ...)

I'm not sure that all what I did is good job. So, can you please check
it a little and tell me if I did something wrong ? As I'm quite new in
the commiters list I'm want to be sure that what I've done is correct ...

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Benjamin Sonntag
Paris,

PS: I just test it on my test tjener server w/vmware and it did not
seems to break anything ...

- Have a space for the french companion CD developpement

What do you think would be the best create skolelinux.fr or create
debian-edu.fr?

I'd rather use debian-edu.fr since in french, skolelinux means nothing
special, but edu is the same root-word in english and french for
education. Furthemore, debian is a well-known distribution in the
french free software world ...

However, we want to know if the historical skolelinux.no/debian-edu team

project ...

So, if some of you want to tell us what you think about this domain name
question, you're welcome :)

About cvs for french dev.

2005-12-06 Thread Benjamin Sonntag
Hi all,

The french team who is developping skolelinux since 2005-05 has no cvs
for now.

I joined the team on 2005-11 and convinced them to use cvs for our
sources. cool idea huh ?

Do you think it is possible to have a dedicated cvs module in your
debian-edu cvs server for the french project, or do you think we'd
rather use our own cvs in France (we can administrate a local version of
course) ? We want to store our specific packages sources in this cvs and
the cd builder scripts too.

We also want to use some scripts to send a mail when a commit is sent to
the repository so that our french server can do nightly builds and so
that our mailing list can receive cvs commit warning messages.

What is your opinion and what solution do you prefer ?

Thanks in advance for your help and advices,

Regards,

Benjamin Sonntag

About Openoffice.org 2.0 and skolelinux-fr

2005-12-01 Thread Benjamin Sonntag
Hi all,

first, hello everybody, I'm Benjamin Sonntag, a french free-software
developper based in Paris.
I help the french skolelinux team till february 2006 (and surely later,
but for now it's my job).

Question:
I am trying to include Openoffice.org 2.0 + l10n-fr in the second cd of
our french skolelinux version.

Is there a more official location for the package repository, I got this
one for now :
http://developer.skolelinux.no/~white/debs/backports/openoffice2/
and do you know if the upper will be updated or if it is only a one-shot
test to package ooo2.0 ?

We will be glad to include this version in the french cd since the
french gvt officially preffer the openDocument format. Therefore it's
quite important to allow any children and teacher to handle documents
based on this format ...

Thanks in advance for your answer,

Regards,

Benjamin Sonntag
Skolelinux France.

PS: did you read my boss' mail (sthierry = Thierry Stauder) about the
choice between debian-edu.fr and skolelinux.fr ? Do you think we can use
one of these domain-names for our project ?

Well, René is doing the backport there has been some posting on this
list only recently. Look at backports.org, please...

I saw the thread but didn't know if this package set is ok.
So, I will look at backports.org and use them. (great site, I used it
for years on my woodies ...)

Undecided, yet, but in case it should become official its location would
probably change...

Kind regards to Paris

B.
