Bug#519662: glibc: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2009-03-14 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: glibc
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

error: #error Fix asm/byteorder.h to define one endianness

2009-03-14 Thread Luk Claes
Hi

Apparently on a current mipsel (using sid), there are these errors
regarding enidanness during building of some packages. Probably
something changed in linux-libc-dev, though userspace should avoid using
kernelspace headers when possible AFAICS and should probably use
endian.h instead of asm/byteorder.h.

Should I file bugs for the packages that FTBFS because of this?

Cheers

Luk

I think there are actually two problems:
- Programs that include linux/*.h which in fine includes
asm/byteorder.h. This is definitely a problem of the kernel headers.
- Programs that FTBFS because they include asm/byteorder.h. They could
be fixed by switching to endian.h, but I don't think it could be
considered as an RC bug, as the kernel headers have to be fixed
  anyway.

Is this bug filed? If not, could you take care of that, TIA?

Ok, these seem to include hdparm, libphysfs, aircrack-ng.

Cheers

Not yet, I am trying to understand the problem. It seems it only happens
if sys/types.h is included before asm/byteorder.h

Bug#519774: libc6: causes many programs not to be able to resolve dns addresses

2009-03-14 Thread James Fisher
Package: libc6
Version: 2.9-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This problem is with libc6 2.9-4, althogh my system shows below it's
using 2.7-18. I downgraded to avoid the problem.

After upgrading to 2.9-4 most programs on my system are no longer able
to resolve dns addresses, when connecting to the internet via dhcp with
a dsl connection.

aptitude update returns this error for every repository: Err
http://security.debian.org testing/updates/contrib Translation-en_US
Could not resolve 'security.debian.org'

Evolution can not send emails, the gnome weather panel applet cannont
retrieve information online, etc. Although iceweasel continues to work
okay.

Upon suggestion from another user, I found that if I configure my system
with a specific numerical dns server address, for example from opendns,
this serves as a work around. But if the dns server is just the name of
my ip (which is the way dhcp configures it) then the problem arises.
