Bug#620134: locales/locales_to_be_generated is not read when reconfiguring locales
Package: locales Version: 2.11.2-10 Severity: normal hi when i want to reconfigure locales by setting locales_to_be_generated with debconf-set-selections, the new value is never read because locales.config rewrites locales_to_be_generated to languages selected in /etc/locale.gen. so using debconf is unuseful. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers squeeze-updates APT policy: (500, 'squeeze-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages locales depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.36.1 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 [glibc-2.11-1] 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib locales recommends no packages. locales suggests no packages. -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-glibc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: locales Version: 2.3.2-7 Severity: normal i try to configure debian to UTF-8 so i run dpkg-reconfigure locales and select [EMAIL PROTECTED] but dpkg-reconfigure don't create new locales in /usr/share/locale/[EMAIL PROTECTED] dpkg-reconfigure use local-gen script which use localedef command: localedef -i $input -c -f $charset -A /etc/locale.alias $locale this command don't work because using '-A /etc/locale.alias' option why this option???, there is no -A option in 'man localdef' and the little help in 'localedef --help' is not really clear. so i don't know what action localdef is doing with this option and why locales package do not update this file (and the /usr/lib/X11/locale/locale.alias) by the default locale selected. in my /etc/locale.alias, there is: french fr_FR.ISO-8859-1 and it's false thanks sylvain - -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux bredele 2.4.18-686 #1 Sun Apr 14 11:32:47 EST 2002 i686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Versions of packages locales depends on: ii debconf 1.3.14 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 [glibc-2.3.2-7] 2.3.2-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries an -- debconf information: * locales/default_environment_locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * locales/locales_to_be_generated: [EMAIL PROTECTED] UTF-8
