Q : Does any body know the meaning of this ?

Rsync does not over-write files in place but instead it will create a new
file with the new content and do the equivalent of
mv tmp-file new-file. This is good for consistancy (at any time opening
the file will give either the old contents or the new contents). However it
has some problems:
1) If the file is larger than available disk space then you can't rsync it
(common problem when transferring .iso files).
2) If you lack write permission to the directory you can't write to the file.

Investigate the -T option of rsync (it's in the man page).

gateway settings for cistron-radius clients

2001-05-04 Thread Erik Peter P. Abella

Hello,

Can the gateway address for windows clients of cistron-radius be
defaulted in the /etc/raddb/users? or must it be specified in the radius
startup script?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what you want to do. Do you mean you'd like a different
default route for different users?

I am not sure if that can be done or why you'd want to do it. You might
be better off asking on the cistron radius mailing list.

By default I think you'll find that dialup clients will have the NAS IP
Address as their default route.

Today, I found two more HOWTOs devoted to LDAP. They' re probably not
Debian specyfic (haven't read them yet).
They can be found probably on every sunsite mirror, but these come from

Newbie from NT: exim problem NOT SOLVED

2001-05-04 Thread Caracal - G. Hostettler

No, bluewin.ch is NOT a local domain, but an external ISP domain I am using
right now to be able to send these messages...

And, now I do not get the (failed to find host name from IP address) part of
the message anymore, as DNS is working OK.

My exim.conf file is attached.

TYIA for any idea on what's is wrong. Maybe do I have to reinstall
everything from scratch.

Sounds like exim thinks bluewin.ch is not a local mail domain. You don't
need to have exim do reverse lookups on local domains. Did you change
something in /etc/exim.conf? Might be useful if you post it to the list
so we can spot the problem.

user htaccess administration

2001-05-04 Thread Cameron Moore

Hello all,
I wanted to know if anyone has seen or uses a (preferably perl) cgi
script that gives vhost users a web interface to manage password
protecting directories with htaccess files. The main stipulation I
have is the ability to create and modify htaccess files in any
directory the user wants (that is in their htdocs/).

I've looked at several scripts that only did half of what I want or went
completely out of their way to to work around the assumption that
whoever was implementing the script did not have administrative access
to the server. I'm about ready to write my own script, but wanted to
know if someone else has beaten me to it. Thanks

Re: An LDAP authentication howto for Debian?

2001-05-04 Thread tps

Since we're on the subject of LDAP, one thing I hate about LDAP, and it
may be just my ignorance, is this: I'm use to using PH for mail routing.
Within PH, for the user record, you can add many aliases for them,
which sendmail happily uses. I can't figure out how to do this with
LDAP! Does anyone have an eyedeer?
