Last what I know is, that there isn't any possibility to
run asp on apache. But I would be really interested in, too.

ASP on Apache? (was: AW: Apache)

2001-10-05 Thread Tobias Lauszat \(Mailinglisten...\)

I'm not sure, but i think, that i remember, that there was a package, as far
as i remember on testing or stable, that was called something
.

here it is:

http://packages.debian.org/stable/interpreters/ :

libapache-asp-perl 1.95-1
perl Apache::ASP - Active Server Pages for Apache with mod_perl.

I never tried and i'm not sure, but is it the right one?

greets and kisses

Of a sort, people have alreday told you about asp2php BUT you can also use:
* ActiveScripting for Apache
* Apache::ASP

Have a look at:
http://httpd.apache.org/related_projects.html

Also a quick google search turned up:
http://www.chilisoft.com/

Which is purchaseable.

It varies depending on whether you are talking about the ASP platform (which
there are proprietary packages for Apache migration purposes) or just using
VBScript, which there are faux-interpreters and some converters.

It's important to distinguish between the ASP platform and VBScript before
having a serious hunt for these products.

UUCP

2001-10-05 Thread Craig

Hi Fellas

I have a very strange problem with UUCP. If I dialup though
one ISP I have no problem using UUCP to retrieve mail from
our Mail Host. However when I dial though another ISP the
client mail server logs onto our mail Host, after which
there is no UUCP transfers :(

Anyone with any idea that can help would be held in
most highest regarded :)

Most likely you want to run asp pages written in VBScript, don't you?
Same problem here, trying to scape from this MS hell. Apache::ASP
won't help; as far as I can see it's just for running the asp
framework using Perl as the language. I'm looking now at chilisoft,
this looks as the answer. But... what about the database connections

 C0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I ' AT OK ATW0' ttyC0 (also with /dev/)

The modem answers the line but my win98 clients doesn`t connect do nybody

That will only work for terminal authentication (the default for Windows is
AutoPPP). Also are you sure that your -I parameter is correct? The
documentation for the version of getty that I use doesn't indicate support
for chat scripts.

Why not use Portslave? It answers the phone and supports full chatscript
functionality for modem configuration etc. Portslave presents a login:
prompt and authenticates with a RADIUS server. It also recognises AutoPPP
sequences and runs pppd with a special module so that the pppd will talk to
the RADIUS server for authentication. When the connection is finished the
details of bytes and packets transferred will be logged to the RADIUS server.

Also Portslave supports a variety of options for running ssh, telnet, or
rlogin connections based on what the RADIUS server specifies.

Anything that can be done by getty, mgetty, radius-client, etc can be done
better by Portslave.

Another thing, currently there are two active Portslave developers, me and a
Cyclades employee (the Cyclades TS4000 type boxes run a derivative of my
2000-12-25 release). Run the latest Portslave from unstable and you get most
of the features of the high-end Cyclades terminal server boxes, plus some
features that haven't yet been copied into the Cyclades tree.

This sounds a bit like Linux Virtual Server.

See http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/

I've never tried it, but it looks interesting.

I looked at that a while ago and it seems like they can connect to windows
databases via an ODBC to ODBC bridge. Considering that the price of an
easysoft or openlink is more then chilisoftit sounds like a good deal. It
does connect to SQL server 7.0 via a merant odbc driver (retail cost
$6000.00). I have no idea about SQL 2000

All and all it seems like a bargain for about $500.00.

You can download a copy and try it out. I never did (I bit the bullet and
converted all my pages to php by hand) but If you try it I would love to
hear about your experiences.

These aren't devices. To uniquely identify a file in unix you need
provide only the device it is on and the inode of the device that the
file occupies, and that's what the numbers are. Comes right out of
stat(2).

This is suidperl detecting an attempt to exploit a common unix race
condition dealing with executing suid scripts. Or they might have really
been trying to exploit an old security hole in suidperl's checks for
that race condition. perlsec(1) under Security Bugs for details.

WAAAA! Mailreader resending 200 mails per mail sent!

2001-10-05 Thread Alejandro Borges

Um heyas ISP's:

Im using qmail+debian+mailreader in a pop vpopmail setup. It works so
fast and so nice, and its so cool and allBUT:

Mailreader (mailreader.com) is starting to act up. It suddenly started
to resend all mails sent through its interface, the server is so fast,
that it can send about 200 mails per mail. And we are talking about 15
domains hosted there (about 20 or so accounts per domain).

Im shure the problem is not qmail or vpop since when mail is sent by pop
the problem does not appear. Its mailreader, no questions about that
So, any help would be wonderfully appreciated...

P.S. Ill be good from now on, I promess

Re: Hacker Script Attempt

2001-10-05 Thread Gene Grimm

What is the best way to protect specific daemons (inet and standalone like proftpd
and apache) from intrusion attempts? I am not that familiar with Linux firewalling
rules yet and am in the process of obtaining a comprehensive administrator's study
guide. I presently have hosts.deny with lines to block outside attacks to telnet,
etc. but they don't seem to work. The lines read:

ALL: PARANOID
ALL: .dial.domain1.com
ALL: .dialup.domain2.net
sshd: ALL EXCEPT 127. ip.block.1. ip.block.2. ip.block.3.
in.fingerd: ALL EXCEPT 127. ip.block.1. ip.block.2. ip.block.3.
in.telnetd: ALL EXCEPT 127. ip.block.1. ip.block.2. ip.block.3.
portmap: ALL EXCEPT 127. ip.block.1. ip.block.2. ip.block.3.

Two of the hosts omitted ip.block.2. and ip.block.3. in the hosts.deny file. This
configuration successfully repels attempts from the specified domains, but it
doesn't seem to work for the specific daemons like telnet. My tests were using our
own servers from one in ip.block.2. to one that does not have the last two blocks
included in the telnet line.
