Re: user name length
sendmail and qpopper. so that [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a total different user than [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have a new client that wants to use their original email setups that use the full email address for pop3. Not sure what system the used to use (NT) but their usernames are as above. It all works except for max of 32 characters. The solution is to stop using passwd/shadow authentication. I'd suggestmoving to some kind of database (MySQL, LDAP, etc). Why do you need thedomain name anyway? What service is this authenticating for?

user name length
Hi again It turns out the problem is user names that are over 32 characters. This is why useradd worked sometimes. The escape '\@' was a red herring. I will still use '\@' as it seems more correct but this does not fix my problem. Can anybody tell me if the max user name is actually my problem, if it can be increased and how. Thanks in advance.. adduser vs useradd
Hi all I have a problem with adding users in the form of [EMAIL PROTECTED] . If I use 'useradd' as follows useradd [EMAIL PROTECTED] It will work most of the time but sometimes it fails with bad username. So I tried using adduser --force-badname but this always rejects user names with an '@' symbol. adduser --force-badname [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am running 'testing' Haven't seen Toy Story yet so can never remember the code names :-( Does anybody have any suggestions or comments to overcome this problem. I have found no other problems with the user names with @ symbols that I have managed to create. Re: local ppp access in JP, DE, US
YMMV, but I just signed up with Worldcom/UUnet to use when I'm on the road. Given that I'm not using them from home, their 10 hours for $7.95/month package works for me. They have 3800 POPs worldwide; my company uses them for their remote access, and I've been all sorts of places and always had a local number available. local ppp access in JP, DE, US
hello, I need to have local ppp access in different countries (US, Germany and Japan) nationwide. Can anybody suggest a provider offering this type of service? I heard about uunet a couple of years ago. Re: ISP manager.
WebMin has an extension module, called UserMin, that allow authenticated user access. I works on a separated daemon (for security purposes, i think), and you can make your own UserMin modules too. It depends on how much knowledge and time do you have to develop your own modules. Im was having the same trouble here, but i decided to write my own isp admin system. Maybe i will spend more time doing my own solution, but, i'll have total control (and no one will know how things work, avoiding hackz). []s and greetz from Brasil! The patch is still there, and it's not going anywhere, just yet. the correct syntax would be (off the top of my head =) auth sufficient pam_ldap.so filter=(foo=bar) i haven't been using the filter patch myself in a while, so it could have been corrupted with the previous updates. Re: ISP manager.
Hi all! I think WEBMIN is more complete (has many modules, updates and contribs). They shows to customers the basic steps on writing their own modules. BTW, ISPMAN appears to be a very nice tool, but isnt in a production release, like WEBMIN, yet, i think. Sorry about my english. pam_ldap filter option
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 hi! i am picking up an old thread here (march 2001 "Subject: schema for NSS LDAP with not all accounts active"). when trying to implement the filter option with pam_ldap (e.g. for ssh) i get an illegal option error. i am wondering if the filter patch is still in the module or if the announcement in the changelog.Debian.gz is already effetive quote: "(...) i'm planning on dropping the patch (...)". if the later is the case: please point me to some documentation on how to implement multiple configuration-files to achieve a more precise granting of services base on special attibutes. oh, what i am trying to do is, to grant different types of services on various hosts by specifying the host attribute like this: host: ssh.hostname1 host: dialin.hostname2 so someone would be able to use hostname2 for dialin but no other services there ... and so on. again grateful for hints. btw: thx for the stunnel pointer. greetings - -- j.h. jogi hofmueller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> GPG-public-key: http://mur.at/~jogi/text/public.key.txt GPG-key-ID: B972CEC1 Key fingerprint = 2CD5 4786 AA9E F315 6430 868F 00FA E375 B972 CEC1 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine iD8DBQE84lE4APrjdblyzsERAsyAAJ9Hyly/y5rLo5unotKJj4eSWjckaACdGuJG +4sWYVCk+jJc5wR9n8n7iG8= =phJS -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
