I can't comment on the ResierFS or AcceleRAID support but I can comment on the stability of the 2.4.2 kernel. We have been running 2.4.2 on our Web servers which also do DNS, mail, mysql and FTP for 50 days now, without a problem. The 2.4.x kernel is definitely faster then 2.2.x (no I didn't benchmark it :-) and it is perfectly stable. We have also run 2.4.3 on a test box and have subject that to some ugly situations without harm. However, be aware of the security hole (security cavern!) in iptables, so don't use the firewalling features. The problem is supposed to be fixed in 2.4.5. Also be sure to read the kernel source as you must upgrade modutils and few other packages from woody to get 2.4.x to work. Pete -- http://www.elbnet.com ELB Internet Service, Inc. By using root you have permission to all files. You could also create multiple sections running as multiple users. then in /etc/inetd.conf add a line: rsync stream tcp nowait root /path_to_rsync/rsync rsyncd --daemon restart inetd and you are ready to sync. Re: Auto 10/100Mb card fallback from 100 to 10 on 100Mb network
> Please... ANY suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure you've already tried these but: Are you sure it is not a noisy cable problem? - Try a different cable - Try a crossover cable directly from card to card to eliminate the possibility of a card to switch problem. - You are running a *switch* and not a *hub* right? (I had to ask!) - Did you look at the 8139too.txt in the 2.4.x Documentation? I'm running SMC cards with the 8139 chip in 100Mbs mode on 2.4.2, 2.4.3 and 2.2.18 without trouble. I compiled the driver into the kernel instead of as a module but that shouldn't matter. I'm sure that this was of no help! :-) -- http://www.elbnet.com ELB Internet Service, Inc. The mail was to the referenced domain. Check your exim/mainlog for details on why it failed to be delivered. Pete -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". FTP creates two connections: an outbound connection and a return connection. The outbound conection is easy: from the clients unprivledged ports to the server port 21 and back. The return connection is a problem. You have to allow *anyone* to connect to your port 20. The reason that you do not get a login prompt is that the firewall is rejecting the inbound connection. Often you can get around this problem by using passive mode FTP (which is probably why they can connect to the M$ box) which connects to one of your unprivledged ports instead of 20. Another way around the problem if your client doesn't want to mess with their firewall is to offer HTTP based FTP. Pete -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
