Everytime I boot my system It says that my partitions have different UUID.
If anybody know what I can do about it...

Thanks in advance,

Hi Desbian,

Can you please help me by telling how to make the spamassassin work in a

Even after I have selected some addresses to check as spam, the scanning is
not working the mail body or subject is not modified.
The configuration file reflects all the changes that I have made in the

Thanks Regards,

What do you have to say about those letters from Africa that seem to be scams? Have you answered any of them. I keep getting them and wonder if any of that is true.

Well I have been playing with debian for a few weeks here, been messing with
linux for about 2 yrs... still pretty new at all this. Mainly I use my linux
installs for Apache/MYSQL and such. But as of recent my wireless router has
been acting up, So I got the idea, why not make my extra box into a
Wireless/Ethernet Router, with firewall and maybe a proxt server also. I am
having a lot of problems finding what I need to make all this happen. Can
anyone point me to some walkthroughs that might give me step by step on getting
everything working, especially the wireless, its a DLINK Wireless card, and
also the box has a 3com 10/100 and a Netgear 10/100 if that helps at all. I
assume Shorewall would be the right firewall software, and prob Squid for a
Proxy that will allow cacheing for my slow internet access that I have.

Hello guys,

Do you know some way to shape some port per connection or per ip address,
with cbq. Like ftp every anonymous connection from different ip address
can download with 5k/s, this is example So I have apache web server
with some data on it and I want to shape port 80 per connection or per ip
address or let's say each connection to have 5k/s. Is this is possible and
if is possible how can I do that. Any help will be appreciate, thanks in
advanced.

P.S. I want to do all that stuff with Debian Linux and CBQ.

Kind Regards,

That is the best advice I've seen yet in the entire thread. Buy-in
from EVERYONE in the organization about the rules is more important
and difficult than the application software used to get there. (If you
see a customer abusing bandwidth, what's your boss going to let you DO
about it? If you unplug your highest-profile customer's connection due
to a DDoS attack that's affecting the whole network, will your boss
back up that decision? Things like this or a formal process set up
specifically to come to a conclusion/decision/consensus QUICKLY are
very important to have ahead of time.)

one or more PCs are soaking up the bandwidth.

..for bandwidth throttling, I (and my isp alias business client) use my
http://fmb.no/ipcop/setup-cbq-0.0.5.tar.bz2 on an ip-less bridge.
I guess it could use a web interface or a webmin module, if you don't
like to edit text files. My isp has about 200 clients now, some of them
businesses, there is ip room for another 600, and AFAICT, any recent
box can handle it, we use a Duron 1.2G with 128 MB ram.

..it and the gateway box is going to be replaced with one throttling
gateway, same hardware, it rarely sees any load at all, I've even
compiled kernels on the bridge while in throttle service. ;-)

Problem 2: I work with a local ISP. He has his system subnetted BUT
there are still folks who find a 'free' IP and use it. When the
owner of the IP fires up his system, he can't connect. Also, as
above, he has seen the'steady state' bandwidth increase but can't
identify the users. He has CISCO switches and I would have though
they would have the tools to identify the user consumption.
  Apparently not.

Is there a tool for monitoring who is using the bandwidth and with
what MAC? I've used Ethereal but it generates way too much detail. I
would like to load up a notebook and a hub and stick it between the
server and the rest of the network or between the Internet firewall
  and the network.

  Ideas? Thoughts?

..ntop, www.ntop.org. Very nice web interface for lookup's, used to be
a resource hog, but I had it running for months on the bridge, and could
not get it to run for much more than 5 minutes on my own 3 box lan 2
years back.
Same HW and SW, so we figured it just needed traffic to survive. ;-)

If the Ciscos are managed switches, try using MRTG to graph port
usage. You should also be able to log on and show port info, check the
docs for the switches CLI. Haven't used Cisco switches here, but
something along the lines of show int should get what you need.

For individual bandwidth usage on a local subnet, iptraf provides a
neat glance at real-time usage. If you're on a switched network,
you'll need some way to see all the traffic on the network. For 3com
switches, it's called something like the roving analysis port
(better than using a hub near the firewall, just analyze the
firewall's port). Iptraf will give a nice display of traffic in and
traffic out, listed by MAC. Then it's just a matter of tracing down
the MAC's location, and going to said location with a big stick in
 hand :-)

You might also want to nmap your network periodically. Look for
 surprising IP addresses.

You'll probably find misbehaving KaZaa servers to blame. They're very
bad about playing well on a network, and will happily saturate your
 bandwidth.

...and set a policy first, then police it. ;-)

PETROLEUM AND PROJECT DIVISION
TEL: +234-1-4702516

9TH JULY, 2002
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

DEAR SIR
This letter is not intended to cause any embarrassment in whatever form,
rather is compelled to contact your esteemed self, following the knowledge
of your high repute and trustworthiness. Firstly, I must solicit your
confidentiality, this is by the virtue of its' nature as being utterly
confidential and top secret though I know that a transaction of this
magnitude will make anyone apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you
that all will be well at the end of the day. A bold step taken shall not
be regretted I assure you.

I am Mr. Tony Okeke and I head a seven man tender board in charge of
contract awards and payment approvals, I came to know of you in search of
a reliable and reputable person to handle a very confidential business
transaction which involves the transfer of a huge sum of money to foreign
account requiring maximum confidence. My colleagues and I are top
officials of the NIGERIA NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION {NNPC}. OUR DUTIES
INCLUDE VETTING, EVALUATION AND FORESEEING THE MAINTENANCE OF THE
REFINERIES IN ALL THE DESIGNATED OIL PIPELINES. We are therefore
soliciting for your assistance to enable us transfer into your account the
said funds. Our country losses a lot of money everyday that is why the
international community is very careful and warning their citizens to be
careful but I tell you A TRIAL WILL CONVINCE YOU.

The source of the fund is as follows; during the last military regime here
in Nigeria this committee awarded a contract of US$400million to a group
of five construction companies on behalf of the NIGERIA NATIONAL PETROLEUM
CORPORATION for the construction of the oil pipelines in Kaduna,
Port-Harcourt, Warri refineries. During this process my colleagues and I
deliberately inflated the total contract sum to the tune US$428million
with the intention of sharing the inflated sum of US$28. The government
has since approved the sum of US$428 for us as the contract sum, but since
the contract is only worth US$400million, the remaining US$28million is
what we intend to transfer to reliable and safe offshore account, we are
prohibited to operate foreign account in our names since we are still in
government. Thus, making it impossible for us to acquire the money in our
name right now, I have therefore been delegated as a matter of trust by my
colleagues to look for an oversea partner into whose account we can
transfer the sum of US$28million.

My colleagues and I have decided that if you/your company can be the
beneficiary of this funds on our behalf, you or your company will retain
20% of the total sum US$28million while 75% will be for us the officials
and remaining 5% will be used for offsetting all debts/expenses incurred
during this transaction.

We have decided that this transaction can only proceed under the following
conditions:
1. That you treat this transaction with utmost secrecy and confidentiality
and conviction of your transparent honesty.
2. That upon the receipt of the funds you will release the funds as
instructed by us after you have removed your share of 20%. Please
acknowledge the receipt of this letter using the above telephone and fax
numbers. I will bring you into the nomenclature of this transaction when I
have heard from you.

Your urgent response will be highly appreciated as we catching on the next
payment schedule for the financial quarter. Please be assured that this
transaction is 100% legal/risk free, only trust can make the reality of
this transaction.

Best Regards,
MR. TONY OKEKE

2002-02-06 Thread Nicholay P. Chuprynin

Hello All.
We need to do IP based traffic accounting on our server, but the main
question is to store accounting information into PostgreSQL database.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Nicholay

You have to recompile the ipac-ng package to support
postgresql. If you are using kernel 2.2 I have no idea.

All what we need is: source IP, destination IP, source port, destination
port, bytes, time.
For now nacctd periodically stores this information in the text file, and
simple perl script (periodically) moves fresh data to MySQL.
But we like the idea to put it directly into database. Why Postgres? It
have some features that we want to use in the future.
Maybe we missing something important?

or some sort of snmp poller if you're looking for snmp data, or whatever,
then hack up an import system that can run periodically and import all
data from a given directory into the database. That saves you from having
to worry about what happens if the database is down, too.

Hi,
i'm looking for a web-log analyzer for potato and multiple virtual hosts.
webalizer keeps breaking (didn't create stats for some days, and then starts
again...),
analog is ugly, ...
and all need plain text log.

I'd like to put the log in a database (mysql, postgresql or s.th.)
and run some more sophisticated stats opver that data, like url of waht
regexp are visited how often, form where, etc.

I found s.th calle Le Visitéur (URL not handy at the moment...) some time
ago, but that's it.

Has anybody else found a program that can do this for me?

thanks,

ar

I have a Compaq DL380 with a Smart Array 5i controller.

This machine doesn't seem to be happy with the compact boot disks (in
potato). The thing boots up but doesn't see the disks. I have installed
Debian on other Compaq machines before and have had to use the compact root
and rescue boot disks.

I don't see any error messages while booting, however I also don't see the
discovering of the array. Am I missing something? boot command line for
the kernel? or do I need to make a new custom kernel boot disk?

Thanks,
Loren

2001-01-31 Thread Jason Quigley

Hi!

I have been supplied with a 3com homeconnect dual link adsl modem by my isp. Does
anybody know of any Debian (or other Linux distros) to control this rotten equipment.
I only received software for winblows and I really, really don't want to have to
install that rotten OS on any of my machines as I'm afraid that it's festering leprosy
may affect the rest of the network.

I know some of you may suggest getting the isp to replace it, but that's not an option
as here in Spain the telcos are only one step ahead of the most underdeveloped third
world nation and they don't grok anything other than (said in best zombie voice)
windows - and not even w2k at that!! With an *average* turnaround time of 6 months to
get an adsl line installed, I'm afraid technology might have moved on by the time they
start to figure out that other OS's exist!

Anyway, all help would be greatly appreciated to keep the evil empire out of our
office.

Many thanks,
Jason.

P.S. I hate Timofonica, I haaaete Timofonica.
