The 1325 should already be setup properly as the board is custom to the
chassis and that the only way the system is sold.. Also the CD is self
booting and doesn't require windows to setup anyway. You have to flash
the BMC and set it up that way and configure the password for acces via
the bootable CD. This will also install the "Service Partition"

Well, if it is anything like SE750x boards, you need to first setup the
entire BMC system using the Intel CD (that runs Windows :P) before it
will do anything useful.

After that is done, you *can* access the sensor data though IPMI, and even
reconfigure the BMC from Linux. There is even an lm-sensors module for
accessing IPMI sensor data. It is slow, but it works. Mostly :P

I don't recall where I found the IPMI sensor module anymore, though.
Maybe it is even packaged in sid/sarge nowadays. I think it was OpenIPMI
or something like that.

The reason i2c won't work on these boards is because they use IPMI
rather than i2c and have a BMC on them which does much more in the way
of management than desktop type boards

So long as you're running sarge, the 3ware 9xxx boards appear to be solid. I
have had a hell of a time trying to get the 3ware provided 3w-9xxx driver to
work under Debian's 2.4 kernels, but it's built into 2.6.8.

You'll need to use the "Engineering Release" 3ware utilities, though; the 9.0.2
release binaries don't work with the 2.6.8 3w-9xxx driver.

sorry - never used icp contollers.

Isn't i2c supposed to be standardized?

We are running a lot of boxes with 3ware 7000 series SATA-RAID without
experiencing any difficulties (as we did with mylex).

Where did you get the 3ware utilities for linux?
Does the software keep up with icp's icpcon?

Hi There, I am looking to deploy some 1U rack servers based on the Intel

stuff (as i have heard there are some problems with compatability here)...

Does anyone have any comments, thoughts or ideas on the above?

2004-10-14 Thread Achim Schmidt
Hi Simon,

We recently installed a intel SR1325TP1-E with a 3ware 7000-SATA-RAID
running sarge - no problems with RAID - 3ware-software (RAID-cli and
management via webserver works fine) - but unfortunatelly "Intels Server
Management 5.*" does not support debian (better said no other linux than
rh) - this means you will not be able to monitor fan-speeds and
temperatures using lm_sensors/i2c

-> if we had the chance again we would purchase some other server/board
(e.g. tyan)
