Do you use postfix under chroot? Current debianized postfix run under chroot.

postfix (0.0.19991231pl04-1) frozen; urgency=low
  * New upstream version.
  * Make postfix run chrooted, like it's supposed to.

I suggest you to CHECK /var/spool/postfix/etc/resolv.conf.

2000-05-28 Thread Chris Wagner
Hi. Sorry to jump in this thread late. But it looks like your upstream
fried your DNS entries. I'ld strongly recommend you update your InterNIC
records to point to DNS servers that *you* control, not anyone else.
Because as you just found out, when DNS screwups occur, they take a lot of
stuff with them, and not having direct control over those boxes is a
monumental headache. Try restoring old .conf and zone files and do ndc
reload. Good luck. :)

PS:
You aren't getting any mail at centinet.com because it doesn't have an MX or
A record!!!

One other thing, your forward and reverse DNS don't agree. Looking up your
IP gives this:
Official Name: BONIFACIO
IP Address: 203.176.36.5
This will cause paranoid sites to reject connections to you.

Network Solutions says your name servers are:

mayumi.iphil.net refuses to accept querries.

 Hi,

 Thanks for the quick response.

What is the host name you are on?

And as I see it, your users are not able to send mail out to certain

Re: broken postfix, help me

2000-05-27 Thread Erik Abella
Hello,
Since:
Network Solutions says your name servers are:
   MAKISIG.IPHIL.NET203.176.28.130
   MAYUMI.IPHIL.NET 203.176.0.2
mayumi.iphil.net refuses to accept querries.
And:
bonifacio refuses to answer for MX or NS or even A.
I suppose all I have to do is get my server (bonifacio) to answer for MX,
NS and A to solve my email problems. Thing is, I'm not sure where to start.
Should I again try to fix /var/named/db* files? If not there, where? Where
else should I look?

Thanks again for all the help!
Erik

P.s.
Once again, thru this wonderful newsgroup, debian and it's users prove to
reign supreme amongst all linux distros! I hate the fact that I'm supposed
to be running RedHAt6.1 on this server of mine. Ofcourse I'm also aware that
sometimes it's not the distro's fault and the SysAd (that's me ;-) should
know better but I've a strange gut-feel that debian is less prone to
foul-ups such as this.

If this is your domain, then it does not resolve. In fact, your
nameservers don't even resolve.

This is one of the reasons why your mail doesn't work.

To fix your problem, contact the admin responsible for your DNS (maybe
[EMAIL PROTECTED]) and have them fix it.

Or you can do the DNS yourself. Just ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to request with network Solutions to change the
nameservers to point to yours.

(Also, do a man nslookup, man dig and a man whois.)
