Freemind removal?

2015-11-20 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Hi all,

The freemind package has been orphaned 4 years ago (#622960) and despite
some interest nobody has really taken over the maintenance. The package
is now broken since it doesn't work with openjdk-8 (#802701) and it
requires Groovy 1.x (#733095) which is going to be removed.

On the other hand, we have Freeplane which is actively maintained and
roughly equivalent if I'm not mistaken.

At this point I think freemind should be removed. What do you think?

Hello,

Please have a look at
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=797595

Commenting the line in /etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties may
help with X11 issues, but I believe the ground issue is that the openjdk
awt toolkit doesn't tell X11 that it is using threads, and thus all
kinds of race conditions can happen within libxcb etc. just because
freemind happens to be using threads.

Samuel

Thank you very much for taking care of this key transition.

Thank you Samuel,

that did solve my problem.
After commenting out the line in the file accessibility.properties as you
described, freemind starts without any problems.

Today I have fixed the last package and the transition is complete now.
Even the bnd1.50 package won't be necessary anymore and I intend to
request the removal for it in the near future.
