RFS: jnr-constants 0.8.6-6

2015-07-02 Thread Jakub Adam
Dear Java packagers,

I am looking for a sponsor for package jnr-constants.

It builds these binary packages:

libjnr-constants-java - platform constants for Java
libjnr-constants-java-doc - platform constants for Java - API documentation
  libconstantine-java - transitional dummy package for libconstantine-java
libconstantine-java-doc - transitional dummy package for
libconstantine-java-doc

The source code can be found in master branch at pkg-java git repository:

  http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-java/jnr-constants.git

This version adds OSGi metadata to library JAR's manifest in order to be
possible
to use it as a new dependency of eclipse-pydev.

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package into sid for me.

Regards,

Jakub

2015-03-03 Thread Potter, Tim (Cloud Services)
Hi everyone. I’m attempting to fix bug #779112 by changing the dependency on
libconstantine-java from Breaks to Conflicts. According to the Debian policy
outlined in https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html:

When one binary package declares a conflict with another using a Conflicts
field, dpkg will refuse to allow them to be unpacked on the system at the same
time. This is a stronger restriction thanBreaks, which prevents the broken
package from being configured while the breaking package is in the Unpacked
state but allows both packages to be unpacked at the same time.”

And also Breaks should be used when moving a file from one package to another
(see Overwriting files and replacing packages - Replaces, Section 7.6)”.

Conflicts appears to be only possible when two packages provide the same file
but do so in conjunction with Provides of a virtual facility, which is not the
case here.

If this is OK I can do the upload myself if I am given DM upload permission for
this package. (Granting permission process is documented at
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMaintainer#Granting_Permissions if that helps
(-:).

Regards,

Tim.

I'm already coordinating this with Tim.

libconstantine-java was updated and we are preparing to rename
it to jnr-constants after jessie.

I can take care of this.

BTW, Emmanuel prepared a script to migrate debian-java packages from
svn to git repos some time ago.

I'd prefer to do this:

- Migrate libconstantine-java to git.
- Apply your changes on top of it.
- Provide a new binary package libjnr-constants-java.
- Switch libconstantine-java to a dummy transitional package
(depending on libjnr-constants-java, so we don't break jython and
  jruby packages).

After that we can rename the source package.

OK - that's a good plan and much better than my idea. Let's do that then.

Tim.

2015-01-26 Thread Potter, Tim (Cloud Services)
Hi everyone. As part of the JRuby 1.7 package update I'd like to request
a sponsor to upload the jnr-constants package at:

http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-java/jnr-constants.git

This is a regular Java library but with a small wrinkle, as an older
version of the library has been previously packaged as libconstantine-java:

http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-java/trunk/libconstantine-java/

According to the git log of the upstream source the constantine library
has been renamed to jnr-constants a couple of years ago, and the Java
namespace deprecated. Simply uploading jnr-constants (and marking it as
conflicting with constantine) and not updating constantine would be a
valid solution. Importing constantine into git and upgrading it without
renaming would be another.

I'm happy to do either but uploading a new jnr-constants package would be
less work for me. (-:

Tim.
