We discussed this point at the Java BOF at Debconf.
It does not *need* to be a release goal but it would help if we need to
put some pressures on maintainers
(especially to quickly get ride of the openjdk 6).

If you think it is not needed, that is fine :)

OpenJDK6 is obsolete and OpenJDK8 not yet released.


Even if that's true, it's an answer to the question "why should we 
switch", which isn't what Julien asked.


As per https://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/, release goals should:

"Affect more than just one set of packages (eg: not just a package 
transition) "

Hello,

I would like to propose the following release goal to the release team
for Jessie:
https://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/OpenJDK7

While the OpenJDK 7 switch is done in unstable, there are still packages
depending on OpenJDK 6.
This release goal will also include the removal of OpenJDK 6 from the
archive.

I am willing to be the advocate for this task.
And I am proposing to reuse the tag:
openjdk-7-transition / ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
