Maint...update

2000-11-28 Thread Ivan E. Moore II
Hi all,

ok...I'm not quite done but I wanted to update a few things and let them
float around while I do stuff on the other servers...

kde.tdyc.com is it's own box now...YEA...for as long as my friend continues
to work there...so yes..at any moment the box could disappear. :(

anyways...so it's not affected by anything else anymore...I need to update
the kernel (building currently) and do some other things which will happen
later this evening..but it's there...along with a few new updates for
potato i386.

The APT format HAS changed. :)

deb http://kde.tdyc.com potato main qt1apps optional crypto

main = kde 2 + kde2 based apps
qt1apps = qt1 based apps and kde 1.1.2
crypto = kdebase-crypto and kdelibs-crypto ... + libssl096  (pretty much it)
optional = updated packages (from woody) such as apache and any ssl based
app (all compiled against libssl096). Not necessary (or at least
 shouldn't be..but not tested)

that format is not going to change. I'm still doing builds/uploads of kde1
stuff...

Ivan

p.s. I'll update the web page soon.. :)

kde 2.0.1

2000-11-28 Thread Ivan E. Moore II
Hi,

If there is someone interested in creating m68k potato packages of
the upcoming KDE 2.0.1 please contact me. It would be nice to have
all available archs (that KDE builds on) ready to go when it's officially
released.

Currently we have the following being built:

i386
sparc
powerpc

I only know of m68k working for potato...if there are any other archs that
do work and someone's willing to create packages please contact me and I
will get you access to the software.

there are quite a few diff's between final-5 and final-12/13

but this is a very good rule of thumb...

I cannot certify this, the page renders well and doesn't crash konqueror
2.0-final-5 on my woody system.
If konqueror is stable on most other pages. Probably, you should look at
http://bugs.kde.org and file a bug if "The Register" is not listed.

KDE2 will not load

2000-11-28 Thread Brent Kopperson
Hi, I hope someone can help me.

After a recent update using apt and tdyc I was unable to start kde2 using
startx. The following error message appeared:

some error setting up inter-process communications. Could not read network
connection list. check that program dcopserver is running.

I am not on a network and can not find any info on the program 'dcopserver'

this list is for all Debian KDE issues...whether user or developer.

there has been problems with nvidia support for a while...and with the
invent of X4 it's increased. X4's GL support is still incomplete/buggy and
unfortunatly that is all I have to build against for GL support. This
will change as X smooths out and as other apps catch up. I'm not saying
100% that this is X4's problem but rather that I've seen other problems
and have had heard that X4's xlibmesa stuff is still being tweaked.

I'm almost 100% sure it's an incompatability between xlibmesa and the
nvidia's gl support.

your best bet is to stay clear of kdm (since you say kde works fine once
your in) until this gets worked out.

continued taskbar malfunctions

2000-11-28 Thread nphyre

Just upgraded to the latest debs from kde.tdyc.com (november 26). Now instead
of closed apps remaining on the taskbar and other things I mentioned before,
the little 'spinning CD' entry appears on the taskbar and then just
disappears. Some apps appear at first, but after a few minutes of runtime,
there are no entries for any open window on the taskbar. Also, the little
area with the 4 virtual desktops occasionally displays incorrectly which
desktop is current.

All of this seemed to work fine with the original KDE2 install I did with
dselect from kde.tdyc.com in early november, but the last 2 upgrades have
displayed varying levels of taskbar brokenness.
