I replied to this message last time you posted it, but just in case you
can't find it, here it is again:

To start on all desktops: kstart --alldesktops
To start on a specific desktop: kstart --desktop

I did read the prior posts, and attempted to see it for myself, but I must
confess it did not work :( Donno if it is the current Woody addition of kde
or not, but the commands given concur with the doc's I have locally..

Not really, or at least I haven't found a solution. It's a peculiar trait

I believe that it is produced by a display manager (such as kdm). If
you are using 'startx', then next time try 'startx 2>~/log >~/log' and
then check that file out :-)

KDE3 from CVS not recognising styles

2002-03-04 Thread Giles Constant
Ok,

Here's my problem - the kstyle module in kcontrol only lists the styles
that come with Qt (eg. qt platinum, qt redmond, etc). All of the kde
styles (marble, riscos, hicolor, etc) don't appear selectable.

Various amounts of stracing and reading .rc files haven't shown any clues
as to where it's looking, but the kde styles ARE installed in
/opt/kde3/share and KDEDIR is set accordingly.

Anyone seen this one?

Given that this is running out of CVS, there's a possibility that you got
half of an upload. Try changing to the directory containing the offending
file and doing "cvs update -D yesterday" to see if that helps.

Once you get a working compile with this method, you can just do a daily
"cvs update -d" in the root. If this compiles with "make", do a "make
install", if not, try again the following day.

Failing that, start reading the source! Most of the code in kdelibs is
very good. (it starts to deteriorate at the application level though..
:-))

I finally got it. I just haven't installed a proper sound driver, because I
tried to get my Terratec EWS card somehow working, but I gave that up now and
am using the onboard sound chip on my mainboard. Who would have thought that
flash refuses to run without a sound driver? (At least not me :))

Thank you everybody for your help!

Just one more thing: I noticed that background music won't stop even after
changing to another site, only untill I've completely closed konqueror. And
flash documents are very, very slow. But I guess, I can't do anything about
that, can I?

Great, thanks!! Easy!! But I can't seem to get a label on it. All it
says is "New Command". I've looked at the existing ones and I don't see
their labels either.

Score -10 from the start. Use 2.2 packages, I suggest.

Since KDE has an epoch, you must version it as 4:2.1.x-y. You also have
to edit debian/rules to enable the optimizations.

Compiling KDE 2.1 on Potato

2002-03-04 Thread Paolo Ulivi
Hi to all,

I recompiled the whole suite of KDE 2.1 on a Potato system, just
to add K6 optimizations (I must be crazy...) for a low-end machine.

I used the standard (so I think) commands:

dpkg-source -x ...
dpkg-buildpackage -b -us -uc

And installed them all with dpkg -i.

But now all that packages are marked to be upgraded, I must put them
on (H)old with dselect or apt-get will try to replace them with the
original debs any time I use it. What am I missing off ?
