KDoc garbage

2002-04-19 Thread Cloverm
I checked my kdoc and I'm getting the same garbage. Oh well, I can live
with that until the official packages come out. What really bothers me
is kate crashing on me all the time. I hope these are problems with the
unoffical packages and not KDE 3 ...

KDoc garbage

2002-04-19 Thread Dylan Oliver
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I've been using the debs which Cloverm posted about very happily. Performance
is much choppier than I came to expect from what I heard, and I hope this is
because the packages were compiled to provide debugging information - could
that be it?

One problem, however, is that KDoc provides me with nothing but garbage
characters when I try to view any help files -- the KMail Handbook, for
instance. Do you have the same problem Cloverm? Any idea what's going on?

Thanks,

no matter how broken a KDE installation is, it should not crash.
It seems that each and every of your KDE apps is affected somehow.
Did you use gcc 3 to compile KDE? If so, this could be the problem.
You could try to use gdb to create a back trace of apps started from the
command line.

(I've given up on this issue and went back to gcc 2.95.4. Let's see if 3.1
works better. Qt works fine but KDE would need to much patching.)

Re: Problems when stating KDE3

2002-04-19 Thread Michael Braun
Hi,

try to create an file with the name ".xinitrc" in your HomeDir. Then
edit it withe the following line:

# my own xinitrc
startkde

After all, you should start KDE3 with

$ startx

Hope that would help you.

Bye
Michael
