Re: I cannot load kde 2.2.2
Here is a link that I found very useful in getting my ATI Xpert 2000 video card, which uses the ATI Rage 128 chipset, working with XFree86. http://two.ucdavis.edu/~holland/unix/xpert2000.html The relevant section of my XF86config-4 file is: Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Xpert2000" Chipset "ATI Rage 128 RF (AGP)" Driver "r128" VideoRam32768 EndSection I had to add the Chipset line to get XFree86 to fire up. Build times?
As I wrote earlier, I consider building my own KDE packages (possibly from CVS) with debugging enabled. I just tried this on qt-copy and this is what "time" said of the effort: real487m1.732s user401m35.620s sys 12m42.350s (450 MHz Celeron 2, 640MB RAM, Kernel 2.4.19, gcc 2.9.5) This is a bit long... I'm wondering, what are the times on current, faster machines (2 GHz and up)? Unknown Process & Arts Problem
What is the purpose of the process 'kbuildsyscocoa'? XMMS can play sound but arts (Noatun) cannot? What could cause this? -- Comments are most appreciated, Bob

I cannot load kde 2.2.2
Hi everybody I've got an ATI Rage 128PF video card. I am running woody with kernel version 2.4.18bf24. According to the manuals, it seems that I should use the r128 driver for my xfree86 configuration. However, the xserver it does not work. When I try to use a desktop environment, it gives me the error "no screens found". I tried also with "ati" and it did not work either. Then I choose "vesa" and it worked ok, butonly gnome. I cannot load kde which is very funny. The problem is that it does not return any error; it starts to load it and suddenly freezes. I've checked the whole xserver-xfree86 configuration again and I cannot work out why I am able to use gnome (and fluxbox as well) but I cannot load kde. any ideas are more than welcome Rodrigo
kdegraphics depends on non-existent libexif5
Bug report. kdegraphics 3.0.4-1 depends on kamera 3.0.4-1, which depends on libexif5. libexif5 has been replaced by libexif7 in sid and is currently only in testing and stable. I don't know whether this is still true for 3.0.5. download.us.kde.org still has the 3.0.4 packages as latest.

Noticed that unstable had a new libxml2 and installed it - solved my problems. I guess it must have added the extra patch that seems not to have been in the original 2.4.28 source I used to create my private deb. - -- Alan Chandler [EMAIL PROTECTED] -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE95cXtuFHxcV2FFoIRAsZ2AKCKWqqlMdjrQ1BMNL0J0V7vUT+ROgCfaROW 4jJ1Djjxe8z74UfnJjHym9E= =6KC0 -END PGP SIGNATURE-
