volume control
Hello KDE users, I'm pretty new to KDE and I was wondering, what do I need to install in order for me to control the volume of my sound card? I have XMMS but the volume can only go up so high. Would installing kdemultimedia solve this problem? bp _ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
Agypten enabling KMail
Where can i get the packages that i need to get crypto support in KMail 3.1.0? Any help is greatly appreciated.
a workaround: final posting since no help
WEll, I am getting absolutely no help in this forum. However, I did figure out a work around that allows me to get prints from kde apps until such time as the system stabilizes and things work as they should. I can pick the printer "print to PS file" which then does not call the kdeprintd and simply creates a postscript file selectively on my harddrive. Then, using the debian package qtcups, I can print to a cups printer that was set up inside of kde. Go figure it ! -- James D. Freels, Ph.D. Oak Ridge National Laboratory [EMAIL PROTECTED]
an additional clue
On my home machine, I have a simiilar setup with Debian/Sid and the kde3.1.0+k1 packages from Karolina. However, on this machine, I do not have the same problems with kdeprintd error messages. However, on my home machine I have a single printer and use the lprng packages and not teh cups packages. I have no idea if this problem is related but at least I can print ! Currently, I cannot print on this machine through a kde process (I can print with lpr command through the cupsys-bsd packages) outside of kde. This is just really frustrating! -- James D. Dec 6 02:24:20 mario pppd[5168]: (None of the available passwords would let it use an IP address.) This is the "key" to your problem. Somewhere in your ppp "options" file there is an entry for "auth". I am not familiar with Libranet, but in Debian Woody it is located in the /etc/ppp/options file. This option requires the remote computer to "authenticate" itself to your computer much the same way your have to "authenticate" via PAP or CHAP to it. This is mainly used when your computer is acting as a "dial-in" PPP server. Most ISPs will NOT do this sort of authentication, hence the hangup. The bottom line is to get rid of the "auth" by either commenting it out or changing it to "noauth". In the normal Debian PPP setup, this particular option is overided by the "noauth" setting in the /etc/ppp/peers/provider file, which you create with the "pppconfig" program. I haven't used kppp in several years, but I seem to recall that you had to edit the /etc/ppp/options file per above to make it work. It may have changed since I used it...dunno. Check out "man pppd" and try to figure out just what PPP config files are being used and make the appropriate edits. You might have this listed as an option in your kppp config / setup also... Try adding "noauth" to "Customize pppd arguments" and see what happens... Cheers, -Don Spoon-
