some problems with kde 3.1.0-rc5

2002-12-25 Thread Wolfgang Mader
hello all together,

since 2 day now i have some problems with kde 3.1.0-rc5 (karolinas).

first:
i have nothing changed on my fontconfiguration. so i can not understand why
the default font from konsole is now so ugly. it is a big i think bold fixed
font.

second:
i am using sim. there was nothing about it but now it say to me:
03:55:30 [DBG] Connect to login.icq.com:5190
03:55:40 [DBG] Slot error 1
03:55:40 [WRN] Socket error
03:55:40 [DBG] Error: 2
it sits there and try to connect all the time on always producing the same
errors.
 i think this must be a kde related problem because the sim version did not
change. and if i use another icq client (ickle) everything is all right.
sim is using the following packages:

KOffice depends

2002-12-25 Thread Greg Madden
I tried to install Koffice Kpresenter 1.2.1 from
ftp://download.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/koffice-1.2.1
I am somewhat confused by the readme. I have a Debian testing system with KDE
3.0.5a, kdelibs4?. The Koffice package depends on kdelibs3 which I think is
KDE 2.2.x stuff.

From the readme:
--info about the current KOffice 1.2.1 Debian packages
-
These packages are built with the current stable KDE release, that means
KDE 3.0.x.

NoteEdit for KDE 3.1?

2002-12-25 Thread Craig Dickson
I haven't been able to find a NoteEdit package for KDE 3, so I tried
building it from source. Unfortunately, it won't build. At first, it
wouldn't even configure, complaining that its test of bison/yacc failed;
I fixed that by correcting a syntax error in its yacctest.y file. Then
it configured, but building gave this error:

% make
cd . && make -f admin/Makefile.common configure.in ;
make[1]: Entering directory /home/craig/src/noteedit-2.0.17'
cd . && aclocal
cd . && automake --gnu ./Makefile
cd . && perl admin/am_edit Makefile.in
cd . && autoconf
configure.in:243: warning: AC_PROG_LEX invoked multiple times
configure.in:569: error: m4_popdef: undefined macro: AC_Dest
autoconf/status.m4:844: AC_CONFIG_FILES is expanded from...
configure.in:569: the top level
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [configure] Error 1

At this point, I'm stuck; I don't know what this means or how to fix it.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Has anyone else managed to build
NoteEdit for KDE3?

This would be no problem, but I have only a limited amount of time to manage
this and not a lot of experience as a "build master". Disk space should be no
problem (at least I still have 40 GB left). But I am running testing.

After mailing you that everything builded okay I noticed that the kdegraphics
packages did not build because of a missing Imlib.h. There seems to be a mess
between libpng2 and libpng3 which inhibits me currently to install all needed
packages in testing.

Just now I will try a build using debootstrop woody. My installation is
"testing". Is there a way that debootstrap can use my apt-proxy server?

Best regards

Would you like to make your debs availabe officially through kde.org ? I mean,
if you can afford to upload them regularly. We would be thankful for building
debs for PowerPC (though my colleague now wants to build those, too and for

Um - my idea was that one first _checks_ what would get updated (by using
-s as in simulate) and then would decide if it's worth it. I'm running a
mix between stable, testing and unstable on two of my working machines
and on some of the servers and have no problems. That said I backup
important packages before upgrading with "dpkg-repack package".

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libwine: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.1-1) but 2.2.5-11.2 is to be installed
  Depends: libncurses5 (>= 5.3.20021109-1) but 5.2.20020112a-7 is to be
installed

You might just as well check if installing those two libraries would have
a big effect.
apt-get install -s -t sid libwine libc6 libncurses5
(This is out of my head, you might want to check the options)
You have to add unstable sources to your apt/sources.list and pinpoint
them to stable.
I guess the impact will be pretty minimal.
I'd guess _not_! Libc6 installs are always somewhat scary. I'm well
and truly fsck'd after installing Mozilla from sid and getting
libc6-2.3.1.  I can't go back to libc6-2.2.5, because KDM won't start
anymore without 2.3, and I can't run anything in Java without 2.2.

Sorry for not noticing that I had autoconf 2.57.
But aftewards debuild did take quite a long time to complete.
I also builded koffice 1.2. without problems.

In kdeadmin I manually remove kcmlilo from debian/control as
this does not make sense on PowerPC.

Thanks a log for your efforts! Finally we are able to use all the

Well, I had the same problem and the cause:
All users were not aloud to read/write /dev/pts or something, that was the
error that caused the konsole AND xterm not to open at my installation

I think, the error is documented in some log file, I think .xsession-errors,
but I am not sure.

Quanta is too slow

2002-12-25 Thread Grégoire Cachet
hello

I use kde 3.1 and quanta debs from
deb http://shakti.ath.cx/debian/kde3.1/ ./

I have a problem with quanta which is very slow when I edit a page that
contains about more than 250 lines. Quanta becomes very slow and
unusable. For example it takes about 5 seconds to write one caracter
when there is a CSS stylesheet of 600 lines
However I have no problem with spaces and breaklines. Moreover, there
isn't any problem while I edit the same file with kwrite.

How can I solve the problem ?

my system is K7-750, 256Mo SDRAM and GeForce256 DDR 3d card (nvidia
drivers are installed and work)

thanks

After the update from KDE2 to KDE3 on woody I had the same problem.
I removed the x at "Run soundserver with realtime priority" in KDE
control center -> Sound -> Soundserver an it was ok.
