Hi,

any reason why the KDE3.0.4-packages for sid were simply copied to the 3.0.5a
folder? For woody, the packages are 3.0.5a but not for sid (which I would use
for my debian/testing).
3.0.5a/Debian/sid is linked to 3.0.5/Debian/sid which is linked to
3.0.4/Debian/sid.

Any ideas? Nothing against Ralph's 3.1 packages but I want to stick with
official KDE versions.

Thanks you all for all the support you gave me.

I noticed that I installed the j2re1.3 instead of j2re1.4; but the strange
thing ist that:

when I had SuSE 6.4 evaluation installed I saw more java applets than now; I
think
that the java version was 1.2. the browser was netscape.

now neither with mozilla nor with konqueror I can see java applets as good as i
saw
them with SuSE... but that's not important: I decided that i'll live without
java untll next
debian stable distribution ( I have an 56k modem, and i cannot upgrade too
often).

I also have not netscape on the CD's I have ( I have only the first 2 of the
official
Debian Distributin) and so Th java applets will wait! :-)))
(form the java-vm I had installed to the 1.3 i installed with your support
several things stated working,
but..)

the other thing is that in konqueror, using centericq the divisor lines are not
shown as they must ( these
lines are made with ascii chars, and in tty they are shown good)

if you can help me, thanks.

thanks in advance to everybody; i think that tomorrow ( or the next day) i'll
unsubscribe from this ML (you
are very good but at the moment i cannot use unstable debian, and so there are
lots of messages actually
"not-for-me" )

I don't have not provided a source package for noteedit, for the simple reason
that dpkg-source bugs out on that package and refuses to build the diff file.

> However, I would still like to understand and fix the build problem I

I have the same and/or various build problem with notedit. The way I built the
packages is to not get it to invoke automake and autoconf. For some reason
that otherwise always fails somewhere for me (various places). And I have
tried all the normal ways of making the build work. There is probably
something not completely right in the automake and/or autoconf build scripts.

But why dpkg-source fails, appears to be something wrong with the dpkg-source
perl script.

As I am not a friend of perl, and don't know how to make automake/autoconf
scripts, I have not tried to fix the problems.

There are unfortunately other problems with noteedit, maybe unique to debian.
So this is a package that needs some work for whoever want to adopt it on
debian.

Noteedit is a program I often use myself.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Replying to my own message, after a complete system purge of everything qt and
kde related, and then installing the ktown packages (for woody on unstable, I
know I know), oggs are working wonderfully. They also seem (warning, placebo
effect ahead) faster. Many thanks to everyone involved, especially Karolina

Kweather destroys kde when it's server is down

2003-01-03 Thread Michael Hoodes
I really like the Kweather tool applet and appreciate the way it's been
improved with newer levels of KDE.

However once or twice a year it causes my KDE system to come to a halt
with swapper thrashing and taskbar not responding when it's referenced
weather HTTP site is not available. It starts producing KDE error
messages and CAN NOT be killed using either KsysGuard or a command line
kill -9 of it's pid. This happens with KDE 2.2 through 3.1.

I am monitoring weather every 30 minutes, but when Kweather can't get
it's data it gets into an error loop posting a message every few
seconds.

I am copying the kweather author (Jürgen Hochwald) with this note who
may be able to help.

One thing is kweather itself but how can a task such as kweatherservice
be killed? As above Ksysguard allows a kill but kweatherservice comes
back to the process list immediately. The same thing happens when I do
kill -9 of it's pid. I presume Kweather and KDE error processing are in
a tight loop and I don't how to stop it.

Just do the following, if it is only for a test anyway:

cvs co -l kde-i18n
cvs co kde-i18n/es
cvs co kde-i18n/admin

then change into kde-i18n. With the installed packages you need to install
dh-make and use it with the template in /usr/share/doc/kdelibs4-dev/dh-make.
Fill out the version information and that's it. then enter dpkg-buildpackage.
The problem is as you mention that you need automake1.6. I've a set of debs
here that I use for builiding which I backported from sid to woody. I've
uploaded them so you can use them.

http://ktown.kde.org/~nolden/devel-packages

You could also use the debian dir in kde-i18n but then you need to modify the
control and the rules file (besides the changelog for the version number, use
3.0.99+cvs20030103-0woody1)

Ralf, going to bed now. finally :-)

How to build a deb package with KDE3.1 and woody?

2003-01-03 Thread Pablo de Vicente
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,

I would like to build kde-i18n-es as a deb package.

Now I am using KDE 3.1 (packages provided by Ralf Nolden in Dec 31st not the
very latest ones) and an almost pure woody system. I only have the CVS
"kde-i18n" root directory and "kde-i18n/es", "kde-i18n/admin" and
"kde-i18n/debian" subdirectories.

First I try to compile the "es" directory to check if all is OK. So
I command:

echo "es" > inst-apps

and

make -f Makefile.cvs
and
./configure
and
make

- - First problem I have is that KDE 3.1 apparently needs autoconf 1.6 which is
in sid. I overcome this problem by using the "admin" directory from KDE 3.0.x
series.

With this workaround I can compile the whole es subdirectory.

Then I clean the whole kde-i18n and begin again with a clean CVS one.

If I try to generate a deb package by issuing

dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc -us

the process removes
F inst-apps
F temp.xml
F update_xml.log
D admin
F debian/debiandirs
D es/docs/quanta
and the process breaks.

Can somebody tell me a recipe to create kde-i18n-es.deb from the CVS for
woody, only having the root kde-i18n directory and directories
kde-i18n/admin, kde-i18n/es and kde-i18n/debian?.

Yes. But we can't do much about that. libexif5 is sufficient for woody systems
and it ships with it. To keep the number of backported stuff low I won't use
that. Instead I'll build a sid version completely from scratch that can
handle all the fontconfig problems that woody users don't have :-))

BTW I just added a backport from geramik-0.17 from unstable for gtk1.x. Damn,

Yes - it works now

Thanks

One other slight issue (I know its a woody/sid thing - and I am not using this
package - so it doesn't matter to me) but kamera requires libexif5 and sid
only has libexif7 so the dependencies are not met. This is turn effects
kdegraphics.

Yes, my password works under both, the console and on a x-terminal (I
tried su username from the user-account in konsole and it is o.k.)
I think it is really only KDE that has problems with my passwords.
My guess is, that it has something to do with pam. I just installed
the libpam development files, and I try to recompile the kdelibs if I
do not get an answer, but I would prefer to not do so, because it
needs pretty long on my slow computer. Thanks for your help!

Does your password still function on the console?
Maybe you've got different keyboard layouts in KDE/X11 and the console.
This happened once to me and almost drove me mad!!!
If it works on the console try to change it temporarily to one with simple
characters only which are located on the same keys on an English and German
keyboard.

KDE does not recognize my passwords

2003-01-03 Thread Michael Thaler
Hello,

I am using KDErc5 on Debian unstable (compiled from source). If I try
kcheckpass, it does not recognize my password. This, of course, also
happens if I lock the screen.

Do I need to install libpam0g-dev to get that working? If this is the
case, why is ./configure not warning me?

Any suggestions?

Greetings,
Michael

You just need to do an apt-get update; apt-get upgrade. Then you'll get the
new debs which work again.

This error says the following: The file you downloaded does not match the
signature of the original file that was mentioned in the file Release:

There are 2 possibilities:

a) Somebody tried to sneek in wrong sources
b) After the last source upload the Release file were not updated or got last
updated and you got an old copy.(mirror troubles)

It is your job to find out if this is a big security issue or a minor.

Ciao, Matthias

I've set up a sid chroot last night after backporting debootstrap from
unstable :-) so I can start the build over the weekend. I've been up now for
27 hours and I think it's time for a break :-))

Ah, I've put up a new set of packages for apps like kgamma, k3b, kcdlabel,
komba2, qtella and some others. Have a look for yourself. The
arts/kdelibs/kdebase packages should be updated, too. I cleaned up the *.la
file mess in the packages last night so those are now in a
not-easy-to-get-in-a-better-state mode now.

Apart from my kuickshow problem - the packages work fine with sid. Thats what
I am using.

(I did have a problem with aptitude continually trying to re-install kmoon and
kteatime - I am not sure what the issue is here - I just removed the packages
as I didn't want them).
