Yes, I agree:
* kde-core: arts, kdelibs, kdebase
* kde-desktop: kde-core, kdeutils, kdenetwork
* kde-extras: kde-desktop, kdegraphics, kdemultimedia, kdepim, koffice
* kde-amusements(?): kde-core, kdegames, kdetoys

How's that sound?

KDE meta-package suggestions

2003-03-16 Thread Chris Cheney
I am now open for suggestions on how to organize the new kde
meta-package(s). I was thinking about possibly having one that depended
on arts, kdelibs, kdebase (possibly kde-core?) then another depending on
all official kde packages (possibly kde), but I have not decided on this
yet. I could also add other meta packages for related unofficial KDE
apps if desired.

I would like the following people in particular to respond: Ben Burton,
Daniel Schepler, Norman Jordan, Noel Koethe, and anyone else maintaining
KDE related packages (that I forgot to mention). Also if anyone else has
suggestions please respond to the thread as well.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Re: Compiling KDE apps: Still not clear...

2003-03-16 Thread Bruce
Following up on my previous query, I looked in /usr/share/qt3/lib/ and
/usr/include/qt3/ to see if I could figure out what was causing the
compile error.

I can't tell if anything is wrong with /usr/include/qt3/, but
/usr/share/qt3/lib/ had the following symlinks which pointed to
nonexistent files in /usr/lib/:

 libqt-mt.so--> ../../../lib/libqt-mt.so.3.1.1
 libqt-mt.so.3  --> ../../../lib/libqt-mt.so.3.1.1
 libqt-mt.so.3.1--> ../../../lib/libqt-mt.so.3.1.1
 libqt.so.3 --> ../../../lib/libqt.so.3.1.1
 libqt.so.3.1   --> ../../../lib/libqt.so.3.1.1

However, the libqt and libqt-mt files in /usr/lib/ are libqt-mt.so.3.1.2
and libqt.so.3.1.2

I tried adding symlinks in /usr/lib (libqt-mt.so.3.1.1 -->
libqt-mt-so.3.1.2) but still got the same compile errors.

I purged and reinstalled all qt/kde -dev packages (the 3.1.2 versions from
ktown.kde.org), but same result.

Is this right? Or does this indicate something else is messed up on my
system?

Bruce

I do not really use this plugin but I included them to get rid of some
annoying messages in kmail on pgp key verification.
The file is present (no change to the package, lately) and I use testing/sarge

kdemultimedia, becouse of kmidi 3.1.1 is missing..
koffice don' know

but new kde 3.1.1 are using libvorbis0a which is in conflict with
libvorbis0 and a lot of packages still depend on it. (maybe this causes
problem in most of packages you listed)

Anyone feel like giving a status report on the 3.1.1-1 upgrade in sid? The

... on what I need to install. I am running KDE 3.1.1 from Ralf's Woody
packages, on a primarily Woody system, with some packages from Sid.

I have read through the various posts this month, and have tried to follow
the advice given, but still can't manage to get past this configure error:

 For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
 Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

(The details from config.log are set out below)

I do have the following packages installed, from Ralf's repository:

libqt3-compat-headers
libqt3-headers
libqt3-mt-dev
libqt3-plugins-headers
qt3-apps-dev
kdebase-dev
kdelibs4-dev
kdemultimedia-dev
kdegraphics-dev

(I didn't install libqt3-dev, because it conflicts with some of the above;
I installed the above packages as they were the packages suggested on this
list. What is libqt3-dev for??)

I get the above error whether I run
./configure
or
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-qt-includes=/usr/include/qt3
or
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-qt-includes=/usr/include/qt3
   --with-qt-libraries=/usr/share/qt3/lib

I also tried running
export QTDIR=/usr/share/qt3
first, but I still got the same message indicated above.

For the record, the program I am trying to install is kcdlabel

After mucking about with things a bit more, i.e., uninstalling and

Printing TT fonts from KDE Apps

2003-03-16 Thread Bruce
I have looked through the recent posts about problems using truetype fonts
in KDE, but am not entirely sure what the result was, or if my problem is
caused by these issues. I am running KDE 3.1.1 from Ralf's debs, on a
mixed Woody/Sid system. I haven't done any manual tweaking of
configuration files (mostly because I don't know what I am doing), I just
installed all the fonts from the KDE control panel font installer.

My problem is that truetype fonts, when used in KDE apps, display properly
(antialiased or not), but, depending on which app I am printing from,
either print out as helvetica (or something similar), or as jagged bitmaps
reminiscent of Windows 2.2 without ATM (for those of you who recall the
late 80's).

The problem is only with KDE apps; TT fonts print fine from OpenOffice -
even when piped through kprinter (I use kprinter --stdin as the print
command for OO, Mozilla, Acrobat Reader, etc.).

If I print a sample of 5 TT fonts from KWord, all but courier will print
as helvetica. It looks as though in this case, some decision is made by
the system "I can't print these fonts, so I am going to default to
helvetica". Printing to a PS file looks perfect, but then printing the
file to paper will also map everything to helvetica.

For other programs, such as KCDLabel, the fonts print out as jagged
bitmaps. The decision made by the system here seems to be "I can't print
these fonts, so I am going to convert them to terrible looking bitmaps".
Interestingly, for kcdlabel, if I print the label to a PS file, it looks
the same as when printed - jagged bitmaps.

 The following packages are installed:

defoma  0.11.0
fontconfig  2.1.92-2
libfreetype62.1.3+2.1.4rc2-3

Apologies if this has been answered, but if it was I don't know enough
about how font servers work to figure it out.

Bruce

pb with Qt...

Hi,

I've tried to do a ./configure and I had the errro 'qt-mt not found'.
In the config.log there was a lot of 'undefined reference' to all funtions in
the qt headers... so I've tried with g++-3.0 and 3.2... and no undefined
reference to all function, just to the function used in the test script by
configure...

What can I do?

Thanks
