I have done so in the past, don't remember off the top of my head. Not
to put you off, but if you read the man page carefully you can do it.
In the meantime, I'll try to jog my feeble memory.

XPlanet

2004-02-26 Thread Robert Tilley
I want xplanet to run in the background of my windows in KDE 3.2 on my
unstable system. I do not wish to run World Clock, grown to fill the window,
however.

Can someone help me have a rotating globe, ala xplanet, as my KDE background?

X Variable?

2004-02-26 Thread Robert Tilley
How do I examine and reconfigure the system variable "x-session-manager"?

Yes, a total noob question...but with KDE I usually have no need. I have to
start KDE from the command line with "startx /usr/bin/startkde" and want to
try a new window manager.

Hey,

I had the exact same problem.
And then I found out that I had 2 kmail lib packages installed.
11 from KDE 2.3 and one from KDE 2.1.5.
The names were almost the same, only the "lib" part had switched places ...
(Sorry, but I can't find out which were the exact names :( )
I removed the one from KDE 2.1.5 and the problem was solved.

I hope this helps.

KDEInit could not launch 'kmail'

2004-02-26 Thread Bud Rogers
Greetings. I've just (re)subscribed to this list after a long absence.

I've been running the kde 3.1.95/3.2.0 debs by Ben Burton and Chris
Cheney on people.debian.org for a while now. I have been quite
pleased, kudos to Chris and Ben. Suddenly today I have trouble running
kmail. Starting it from the K menu produces the error in the subject.
Running kmail from the command line produces the following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ which kmail
/usr/bin/kmail
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/bin/kmail
/usr/bin/kmail: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkmailprivate.so.0:
undefined symbol: _ZNK4KPIM12ThreadWeaver3Job9classNameEv

This behavior showed up in mid session. I had been reading mail with no
problems. I shut down it down to do some other things, then when I
tried to start it up again it failed.

I checked the list archives and found there was a threadon this subject
a few weeks ago. but the thread doesn't seem to mention a solution.

FWIW, I have most of kde 3.1.95 in /usr/local/ that I compiled from
source, before I found out about Chris and Ben's debs. That kmail runs
fine -- that's how I'm composing this email. I wouldn't be surprised
if my problem is some kind of lib mismatch, but I'm really puzzled
about how and why the problem surfaced in mid session like it did. I
would welcome any suggestions.

Hmm, is 26 current or 27?

Bringing it to compile againt the current libiw in unstable requires a
minimal fix. If you're interested, I can make a patch from my changes
(plz. include your preferred patch format;).

The problem get even more complex with internationalization. The translation
of an English string in French or German can be longer or shorter than the
original and ruin the geometry of the dialog box.

It will be changed if they are bug reports filed. We have at KDE a new quality
project : http://kde.ground.cz/tiki-index.php?page=KDE+Quality+Team that aim
to adress the myriad of small quality problems that still exist in KDE and to
help developers. Volunteering and adopting one of your pet KDE application as
a janitor is a good way to contribute back even if you have little free time.

Cheers,
Charles

konqueror in 3.2/sid

2004-02-26 Thread David Bishop
I apt-get upgraded last night, and relogged in this morning, getting the
latest kde packages. Now, however, konqueror does not go anywhere, sitting
and hanging at 'connecting', no matter what website I point to. I first
chalked this up to using an authenticated proxy (which tends to break at
least one per major release cycle), but even after changing the proxy setting
to 'connect directly to the internet', and trying to go to an internal
webserver, I get the same result. I then blew away my settings for
konqueror, and the share/apps for konq, khtml, kionetrc, and kioslaverc,
reset things up, and have the same problem. I should note that I have also
been killing the preloaded konq after each change, just to be sure. The only
hint I have been able to find at all is the following from
my .xsession-errors:

KURLRequester::setProperty( "mode", value ) failed: property invalid,
read-only or does not exist
ASSERT: "i <= nodes" in /usr/share/qt3/include/qvaluelist.h (372)
ASSERT: "i <= nodes" in /usr/share/qt3/include/qvaluelist.h (372)
DCOP aborting while waiting for answer from 'kded'
DCOP aborting while waiting for answer from 'kded'
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used

I get that every time I try to go to a website in konq. So, any ideas? Cuz I
don't like mozilla...

Other notes: I have tried with the kwalletmanager running and not, with no
change. Also, I never get prompted for a username/password, even after
resetting things up.
