KDE 3.2: Control Center almost gone
I notice that, on my Debian/Libranet system, KDE unstable has almost nothing in the the Control Center.

Application for statistic evaluation
Hello list, I am needing a programm which is able to calculate some statistic problems. For example linear regression. Is there something around. I prefere KDE porgramms but no matter if it is based on gtk. Cheers Wolfgang

The plastik colour scheme is present, but no style, no window decoration, no option in kpersonalizer, etc. Is this a packaging bug? Christopher Martin

They aren't quite the same symptoms as you described, but in the end the solution was to set KDE sound I/O to use ALSA rather than Autodetect or OSS. There's something about OSS emulation in the new ALSA that isn't working, at least with KDE. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=232466 for more.
Kopete - KDE3.2
Hi, Another upgrade wrinkle on SID. Kopete dies with the following error on my system: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kopete [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kopete: relocation error: /usr/lib/kde3/kopete_irc.so: undefined symbol: _ZN3DOM4NodeC1Ev David
Konqueror problem after 3.2 upgrade
Hi everyone, Just got KDE 3.2 installed from SID, and my konqueror taskbar icon now doesn't work. Typing konqueror from a terminal works fine. The icon's command is kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing. Runing this in a terminal gives: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing kfmclient: ERROR: Couldn't start konqueror from konqueror.desktop: KDEInit could not launch 'kioexec' Is this expected, and I should upgrade my shortcut? Also, where's plastik? It's one of the things I was most looking forward to in KDE 3.2! :) David
Alsa with 2.4.24
I've previously posted this to debian.user but on further investigation I think it is a KDE problem. I run a sarge system using standard kernel-image-k7 and alsa modules. I have an Audigy sound card which uses the emu10k1 driver. Since moving to 2.4.24 I keep losing sound. If I revert to 2.4.22 everything works OK. Using alsamixer I can get sound to work OK on 2.4.24. However, whenever I load KDE I lose sound again until I use alsamixer again. If I go to control centre and turn off "load volumes on login" everything is OK again when I log in. Haven't been able to find anything about this so not sure whether I should bug it. Regards Tony Middleton

I suggest adding experimental into sources.list and manually upgrade KDE 3.2pre to 3.2.0/3.2.1 from Debian unstable/experimental. I switched from -cm packages yesterday with some fuzz - mainly because some files are in other packages, or packages has other names (kwalletmanager <> kwallet, libkdepim1 <> kdepim-libs etc.). But dpkg --force-overwrite some_packages done the job. --
orth <-> 3.2.1 binary compatibility?
Hi all, Can orth's cvs 3.2 packages be used with the kdelibs from 3.2.1? I realise that 3.2.x ought to be binary compatible, but I don't know if anything's changed between orth's last cvs packages and 3.2.1 in unstable. If something was marked 3.2-pre, does that mean it's binary compatible with 3.2.x? Is it safe to --force-depends in order to install the 3.2.1 packages over orth's packages? Quite keen on being able to keep using kmail until it gets into unstable... Thanks, Daniel.

Say, CPU, memory, URI of static web page and time taken to render from cached copy. Others could then compare and advise if you're seeing expected performance levels. There is, after all, a remote chance that it's not a problem with konqueror. It renders admirably nimbly on my humble setup after all. Cheers, Jedd.

O.K., I just solved the problem. It was a long and windy road to find what is going wrong. I started to move .kde and .kderc out of the way, but that did not help either. I deleted .qt and .mcop and so on, but that all did not help. Finally I created another user account and KDE worked fine with the new account. I really did not understand that, so I moved my whole home-directory out of the way, deleted my old account, deleted the home directory, created a new account with the same name and the same uid and the problem remained. Creating an account with the same name and a different uid actually helped so I thought there might be some files somewhere that are causing the problem find -uid 1000 -print / quickly showed that there were some files left under /var/tmp/kdecache-michi deleting this directoy solved the problem. Very strange, indeed. Take care, Michael

Re: KDE 3.2 broken
I'm supposing you're running unstable. First, remove the download.kde.org apt source and add ftp.us.debian.org and ftp.debian.org after your favorite mirror to be sure that that mirror is not missing something. Second, since the unstable version seems to be incomplete, also add this source: deb http://people.debian.org/~bab/kde-3.2 ./ Third, choose all the packages that you want from the following: kdeaccessibility kdeaddons kdeadmin kdeartwork kdeedu kdegames kdegraphics kdemultimedia kdenetwork kdepim kdesdk kdetoys kdeutils Enjoy :) Paul On March 7, 2004 01:01 am, Matt Byrne wrote: > Hi, > > This morning I did an apt-get -u update, and an apt-get dist-upgrade. > As a result my KDE3.2 broke! KDE 3.2 broken
Hi, This morning I did an apt-get -u update, and an apt-get dist-upgrade. As a result my KDE3.2 broke! I keep getting an error message "Your last session lasted for less than 10 seconds ... blah blah blah". I checked my disk space, and it's fine, and I did log out properly. I tried to then remove kde and re-install it. Removing it went well with this command : apt-get --purge remove kdelibs4 libarts1 I then tried to reinstall using this command: apt-get update && apt-get install arts kdelibs kdebase kdegraphics kdeadmin kdemultimedia apt-get then spits out this: localhost:/etc/apt# apt-get update && apt-get install arts kdelibs4 kdebase kdegraphics kdeadmin kdemultimedia Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/main Packages Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/main Release Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/contrib Packages Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/contrib Release Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/main Sources Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/main Release Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/contrib Sources Hit http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au testing/contrib Release Hit http://download.kde.org stable/main Packages Hit http://download.kde.org stable/main Release Reading Package Lists...
