This can not be the solution because this option has nothing to do with the settings you have given e.g. to the icons on your desktop. I think just remove your .kde (but please make a backup) and try if this solvs you problem. If so you have to integrate the old .kde into the new. But be carefull because for example kontact stores its date (your addresses) under .kde cheers Wolfgang

No idea if this could solve the problem but removing config files after upgrading has unfortunately become a commen actions. I do not think that you have very valuable settings in this config file - but nether the less move it to another place and try your luk. The file is ./kde/share/config/konquerorrc. A lot of menu items appear in the "lost+found" entry. I have tried removing my .kde directory and rebuilding it but this does not cause the menus to reappear. Thre appears to be no place in the KDE Control Center to turn the Debian menus on and off. Running update-menus give errors due to already reported problems in /etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-apps /etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-dirs /usr/bin/kdm-update-menuand /etc/kde3/debian/kdm-update-menu.sh are missing form the kdm package and /usr/bin/kde-update-menuand /etc/kde3/debian/kde-update-menu.sh are missing form the kicker package. I get these from comparing with a sid system that has not yet been upgraded to KDE 3.2 so this may not be an accurate represenation of what has changed over the last upgrade. Any suggestions? Please cc to me as I am not subscribed to this list. Cheers, Carlo The upgrade of "menu" from 2.1.9-5 to 2.1.10-1 either introduced a bug or triggered a bug in the kde update-menu scripts (I think the latter). Downgrading menu to 2.1.9-5 restored my Debian menus. Hmm, I got the same problem and tried to downdgrade with apt-get install menu=2.1.9-5 but the version 2.1.9-5 could not be found by apt. KDE 3.2.1/Konquerer and Java Applet problems
Hi, since updating KDE (3.1.5 to 3.2.1), displaying applets does not work correctly. E.g. JTree unfolding produces a very high Path with nothing. In a scrollpane I can go to the bottom where I find the rest of the 'leafs'. Also, my applet keeps running though I closed all konquerer windows. The same applet viewed from KDE 3.1.5 with Konquerer ist fine. Same with MSIE from Windows machines. (I did not test it with Mozilla, since I never got java run with it.) Does anyone has a hint? Two 3.2 issues: KAddressbook and Logout
Hi to all, having run 3.2 CVS and now the packages from unstable I'm quite happy with my new KDE despite of two things: KAddressbook is totally messed up. I can import or add entries but they're not stored. If I select "File->save" no error message is given but with the next start all contacts are lost. Same in KMail. When I right click on an address and say "Add to Addressbook" it gives the error message that it could not write to the addressbook. If I do an "Open with Addressbook" the entry is added in the upcoming addressbook window but disappears after a restart. The problem is that I don't even know where it stores it's addressbook, so I can't check for file permissions and the rest of the stuff. Second point of annoyance is that the Logout screen doesn't remember which option was selected. My notebook can't do a reboot (as of 2.6.4) and therefore I always select shutdown. But when I logout the next time the topmost item is selected again. Here again I don't know where it stores this options and therefore can't do anything about it. kopete 3.2: recovering icq password
sadly, kopete 3.2 does not accept a 3.1.5-kopeterc with the stored icq password. it keeps asking for the icq password at start but i can't remember it and the password in the old koeterc is encrypted. anyone got an idea how to recover the password?

Hi Dominique, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my rather lengthy ramble. ] This is very strange. Are you sure you haven't done anything wrong ] yourself ? If not, you can file a bug report about this at ] bugs.kde.org. I did an upgrade of about 200mb today, and a screenful of packages according to apt, so I've no idea which bit (if any) would have replaced the bookmarks.xml. Obviously, given it's under my ~/.kde directory, it wasn't during the apt-get process .. but I mean that I've no idea what package might be responsible for triggering whatever it was that replaced the bookmarks.xml file. If no one else has experienced this, then I'm happy to ignore it (it'd be a pretty useless bug report if it's a once-off). I'm going to upgrade the laptop, similarly configured as this machine, later this week -- if it happens there then I'll start to get paranoid. ] > 2. kdm (and configuration files associated with same) still ] > continue to assume everyone has 6 consoles and that X starts on ] > vt7.
