kdm does not restart after session ends
Hi! I have another problem with kdm. I have a debian/sid system with kde 3.2, kdm, ... The user authentification is done via openldap. When kdm starts, everything is as usual, the userlist is available in the left and I can login and work with kde. When I close kde, kdm should restart, but it doesn't. The text login appears and no retry to start the X server is made. I'm searching for several hours now and I'm not able to find a hint, why this happens... There is one line in syslog that complains about a bad signal, but I don't know why this signal appears. Kdm works fine on all my other PCs, but I don't have ldap there, so I think the problem is the combination kdm+ldap... Mar 23 10:37:07 merkur kdm[7208]: Unknown session exit code 0 (sig 6) from manager process Help me please Bye, Patrick
kwin does not provide window manager?
Hi! I just tried to use update-alternatives to set the default window manager to kde, but it doesn't work, because the provides property is not set to x window manager Is this a bug or a feature? Bye, Patrick

Bug#214514: klipper: freezes a couple of time per day
Package: klipper Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #214514 I experience almost the same behavior as described in bug #214514, i.e. klipper occasionaly freezes up. After a while (30 seconds up to a couple of minutes) the system restores automatically, though. This happens every couple of hours. This behavior is not new to 3.2, but I also experienced it in version 3.1. I would consider this an important bug, since a useful tool in KDE is seriously crippled on some systems. Spell check highlighting and other things.
Hi everybody, On my computer, Sid up-to-date, kword does not highlight misspelled words (the configuration option is set!). Does anybody else has the same problem? (i.e. is it a bug?) Or is my installation misconfigured? When configuring Kword, it complains about the fact that the symbol font is not installed. It appears that under Xft, this font is named Symbol. Is it a bug? ;-) Finally, is it possible to have spell check as-you-type under kile and quanta? Thanks, Yannick

kcontrol crashed bei Auswahl Soundsystem
Hi! I have a problem with the Control Center. Whenever I klick on Sound Multimedia -- Soundsystem kcontrol crashes with The application KDE Control Center (kcontrol) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV). --- 8 --- I found a bug report, but it's only about the system notification. (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74201). Before this happend for the first time I newly installed alsa. on my woody box with kde 3.1.4 and kernel 2.4.24 In the control center I choose as Soundsystem alsa. Since then I never could go back. Is this a new bug or is it a failure somewhere else. Where can I search for the reason, and where is the config file to change things by hand? I didn't find anything in the log files. Neither /var/log/syslog , .../messages or .../kde.log tells something about it. TIA Ulrich Fürst
Re: Spell check highlighting and other things.
Exactly the same here: no highlight of misspelled words (but spell check results has suggestions if you rightclick on top of a misspelled word), and missing symbol (but its installed): The font 'symbol' is missing. Do you want to change the font style anyway? I too have the same problem (I don't use KDE, but I've been asked to set it up for someone else). Running sid, installed kde-i18n-fr, configured KDE, but all apps are still in English. I've confirmed that ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals is set up correctly: [Locale] Country=ca Language=fr:en_US I've also installed locales, and generated the fr_CA and fr_FR locales, but that didn't help. Strangely enough, the documentation (or at least, the parts that have been translated) is indeed displayed in French; it's the locales portion of kde-i18n-fr that just doesn't kick in. Nevertheless, running e.g. kedit *will* load /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/kedit.mo, as confirmed by strace. Why it's not being used is beyond me. I also got the same results with kde-i18n-ja, so it's not specific to one package or language. -- Frederic Briere*[EMAIL PROTECTED] = [EMAIL PROTECTED] IS NO MORE: http://www.abacomsucks.com =

Re: KDE 3.2: Control Center almost gone
Bruce wrote: I notice that, on my Debian/Libranet system, KDE unstable has almost nothing in the the Control Center. Same thing here after an apt-get upgrade to sid from a new install of Mepis linux. Seems like the control centre can't find the modules; the few that show up (K3bSetup, Digital Camera) seem to crash when I try to access them. Could this be a problem that occurs when moving from a Debian based system (Knoppix, Mepis, Libranet etc.) to a straight Sid system? Anyone have this problem in a straight upgrade from sid? Bruce This was solved for me by removing and then re-installing kdebase-data: apt-get remove kdebase-data apt-get install -t unstable kdebase-data
KDE Wallet Access
I am trying to disable my KDE Wallet - its just annoying me every time i log into my machine. Im sure its meant to be in KDE Control Centre - Security Privacy - KDE Wallet, but its not there. Also, it isn't under the KDE Menu - Settings - Configure Wallet either any ideas? Tom Simnett
