Bug#248865: kde: cdrom auto-icon forces noexec option

2004-05-13 Thread martin f krafft
Package: kde
Version: 3.2.2-1
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Tags: upstream

Sorry for filing this here, I am not acquainted with kde, so I don't
know the appropriate subpackage...

Anyhow, tagging this upstream...

Problem is when you configure automatic desktop icons for unmounted
CD-ROM etc. devices, clicking on the device mounts it automatically
with options noexec,nodev,nosuid -- this is *very* nice actually,
but at times it is a problem, when the user wants to legitimally run
an executable from a CD-ROM.

It would be nice to have a feature to allow the overriding of the
noexec option on a per-case basis.

Thanks,

Bug#248868: kde: new user default config is extraordinarily ugly

2004-05-13 Thread martin f krafft
Package: kde
Version: 3.2.2-1
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We installed two new KDE systems yesterday with
`apt-get install x-window-system kde`. This worked like a charm, but
when we logged in for the first time, the desktop was
extraordinarily ugly, for the following reasons:

  - the background looks like downtown houston[0], except more boring
  - thee desktop icon filenames have a shadow that makes them
basically unreadable
  - font anti-aliasing is turned off, catapulting us back to the
pixelised eighties, or earlier

it would be nice to have the default configuration be a little more
friendly to the retina. i suggest using the default_blue background,
which has become a KDE standard, to choose white text on clear
background without shadows for the desktop icons, and to turn
anti-aliasing on by default. the only argument against that, which
i can see, is performance. however, if that's a concern, then KDE is
not right in the first place, especially not 3.x.

0. no offence intended

Personaly, I have a guess. Rebuilding Qt also requires rebuilding every app

libqt (the reason is described in Qt Plugins HOWTO in official Qt docs).

Anyway, that's only a guess. Martin, Ralf where are you? Please, give as an
explanation and we'll give you a break :)

 IMHO, -no-stl is wrong, and it is no longer recommended by KDE

I agree. I've checked: Red Hat, Mandrake, SuSE, Xandros – all have STL enabled
Qt, only Slackware hasn't.

changing proxy settings of konqueror in a shell script

2004-05-13 Thread Tobias Kraus
Hi all,
does anyone know how to change the proxy settings of konqueror
(kde3.2) from within a shell script. Actually, I need to change from
direct internet connection to using a proxy (defined in a
autoconfiguration script downloaded from a webserver - this url does
not change). This can be achieved by changing the ProxyType setting
(from 0 to 2 and vice versa) in ~/.kde/share/config/kioslaverc:

---8x---

  [Proxy Settings]

I have to tell konqueror to re-read kioslaverc. For this, I wanted to
use dcop, but I couldn't find the correct function to call in kdcop -
if there is one.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Tobias

1. Have you tried what happens if you edit the file by hand? I know

Konqueror ignores my color in default.css file

2004-05-13 Thread Jan Torben Heuer
Hi, here is a debian testing with kde from unstable running. I wrote a
default.css for the konqueror:

body {
background-color: #FF;
color: black;
font-family: Helvetia, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
font-size:11pt;
}

a:link {color: #FF;}
a:visited {color: #88;}
a:active {color: #FF;}

input,textarea {
color: black;
background-color: white;
font-size:9pt;
}

Everything works fine exept for the color of inputfields, buttons,
etc...: Konqueror uses the color from my kde theme: lightgrey. This is
nearly unreadable.

Anyone an idea?

  what are your session manager settins? I mean, under:

control center - kde components - session manager - On login

  which option have you selected? If you have Restore manually saved

  think) after you've closed the windows and log in again.

manager tells there is no configuration file available. There are actually
few savers that do work in three or four categories, but the rest won't.
There seems to be no pattern or a reason why these few savers work, since
they are from random categories.
After searching through Google, I found couple similar descriptions from
people having problems with KDE 3.2 screen savers. One solution was to
install package 'xscreensavers-nognome', but I have the package already
installed, and all the others needed for running screen savers. Anyone have
an idea how to fix this and have those savers back?

Cheers,
Ville
