Let's have a look at the original report:

Bug#273281: kmail: Non-ASCII password breaks SMTP and IMAP authentication

2004-09-24 Thread Nikolaus Schulz
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.2.2-2
Severity: normal

Both SMTP-AUTH and IMAP login fail when the password contains non-ASCII
characters. Verified here with german umlauts and ssharp.

I watched the SMTP PLAIN authentication, any non-ASCII is messed up in
the login string.

Nikolaus

Bug#266742: kdelibs: ipv6-lookup problem again?

2004-09-24 Thread Felix Homann
Hi,

thanks for the interesting link. Unfortunately, I could not verify if setting
KDE_NO_IPV6 helps because the problem has disappeared early this week.
I don't know if this is related to some upgraded packages in Sid or if
www.golem.de now uses a different advertising (it always seemed to me that
the delay was caused by some advertising that could not be resolved).

Since I can not reproduce the behaviour anymore I'm going to close the bug.

Regards,

Felix

so does konqueror here, for me and I expect for most people too. for
that reason, I don't think it may be reasonable to disable ipv6
   lookups.

in any case, the purpose of this mail was just to share what I just
   found at

 KDE_NO_IPV6 (KDE 3.2.3)
Set this variable to disable IPv6 support / IPv6 DNS lookups.

so you may try if it still works and effectively resolves your
problem. please write back in any case.

Some web sites take an insane amount of time to load, e.g. www.golem.de
. In the past this often has been an issue with the --with-ipv6-lookup
option in the debian/rules file, see

artsd-1.3.0 and thus libqt3-3.3.3 in testing

2004-09-24 Thread Hendrik Sattler
Hi,

does the new version actually works reliable with the old KDE-3.2.3?

This also pulls in new libqt3-3.3.3. Was this actually tested against
KDE-3.2.2? I actually remember changes of libqt where some thing started to
behave strange.
How comes that such changes are in Sarge although it _might_ mess up KDE,
there?

Or is this all well tested and I should upgrade with a smile?

UTF8 an KDE in debian sid?

2004-09-24 Thread Jan-Hendrik Palic
Hi all,

I am a bit confused about the utf8 support of KDE 3.3 in Sid.
I was a GNOME user befor switching to KDE fa few weeks ago and in gdm I
was able to choose [EMAIL PROTECTED] and got a full utf8 enabled GNOME-Desktop.

Just I am using KDE and happy but I have only utf8 enabled Apps, if I
start them from the uxterm. When I start my apps from kicker or menu,
they do not have utf8 support.

I have utf8 enabled in

 /etc/locale.gen
de_DE.UTF-8 UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED] UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ISO-8859-15
en_GB ISO-8859-1
en_GB.ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15
en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8
de_DE ISO-8859-1

 /etc/enviroment
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 /home/$USER/.profile
[EMAIL PROTECTED]; export LANG
[EMAIL PROTECTED]; export LC_ALL
LC_CTYPE=[EMAIL PROTECTED] ; export LC_CTYPE
LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8 ; export LC_MESSAGES

In KDM I cannot choose my character-encoding thus it is able in gdm.

Start my KDE from gdm is not es solution.

Is there a global enable-UTF8-Button in Kontrol-Center I missed?

  Thnx for your help?

Jan

I'm running sid, but I have held off updating KDE to 3.3 until all packages
are available (which it sounds like will be in a couple of days). I have
upgraded qt to 3.3.3, though. So, I have been running KDE 3.2.3, qt 3.3.3,
and arts 1.2.3 for about a month now with no problems.

So, I can answer your question for qt, but not for arts.

see Bug#269132. the migration to testing has only been allowed by the
RMs after some developer (Riku Voipio) actually checked it worked.

Or is this all well tested and I should upgrade with a smile?

you should be safe. if you encounter any problems, please report.

First problem: all the sudden, every newly started app has AA enabled.
Too bad that I really do not like it. And yes, this is surely caused by the
upgrade.
AA is disabled in the KDE control center and autohint and antialias are
disabled in /etc/fonts/local.conf.

And yes, I alread restarted the whole system...

Re: KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension

2004-09-24 Thread Silvan

WARNING: KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension : no filter found for
 application/pdf, but also for text/plain

and acroread/kprinter will not print any more... It is no cups problem
because with the lp commando I can print the file corretly.

Is this a KDE problem or gs ? and where can I add 'filter extentions' ?

I've seen it for quite a long time now, but it doesn't seem to break anything
here.

Load a PDF, and I get the error in question:

kghostview: WARNING: KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension : no filter found for
application/pdf

Then I print a page of it, and I get the second error you mentioned:

kghostview: WARNING: KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension : no filter found for
text/plain

Yet the page emerged from my printer in perfect shape. I've printed scads of
PDFs since these mysterious errors first showed up, and I just wrote it off
as noise. If it ain't broke

I'm running CUPS too. I have a Brother HL-1440/foomatic+hl1225. Maybe that's
the difference between our setups? These messages obviously represent
something unpleasant on your own box.

Sorry I have no idea what it might be.

I am a bit confused about the utf8 support of KDE 3.3 in Sid.

 Is there a global enable-UTF8-Button in Kontrol-Center I missed?

I don't know if this is the best way but i enabled utf-8 by setting LANG
and the other exports in a small script which gets sourced on kde
startup.

~$ cat .kde/env/locales.sh
export LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
export LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8
export LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8

Hope this helps,

KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension

2004-09-24 Thread A.P.Munnikes
Hello,
I'm running Debian testing and after a upgrade last week I have a little
problem.

kprinter, kghostview and so on gives warnings about
WARNING: KFilterBase::findFilterByExtension : no filter found for
application/pdf, but also for text/plain

and acroread/kprinter will not print any more... It is no cups problem
because with the lp commando I can print the file corretly.

Alfred
p.s. there are no filters on the printer (HP laserjet 6MP) in Kprinter
p.s.2. also with an empty/new profile as root I have the same problem.

does the new version actually works reliable with the old KDE-3.2.3?

see Bug#269132. the migration to testing has only been allowed by the
RMs after some developer (Riku Voipio) actually checked it worked.

Or is this all well tested and I should upgrade with a smile?

you should be safe. if you encounter any problems, please report.

  thanks,
