Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Severity: minor

Before updating to kmail 3.3.0-2 when I checked mail in if a new email was
filtered into a sub-folder, and the folder structure was collapsed, then the
top level folder would have been highlighted as having unread mail. Now
after the upgrade none of the folders or sub-folders are highlighted.

example
---

I have the following folder structure:

Linux
Kernel
Debian
News
Bugs
Mandrake

Now previous to the update if an unread email was filtered into
Linux-Debian-News then the structure would look like this:

Linux (Bold)
Kernel
Debian (Bold)
News (1) (Bold)
Bugs
Mandrake

The (1) being the number of unread emails in the folder.

Currently the structure is not being updated to the second structure and
it's a case of pure guesswork of where there are new unread emails.

KMail handles incomming HTML Mail very well. But it's would be very nice
if we could write mail using HTML, like in Netcape/Mozilla mail. Is such
a feature planed ?

Bug#274779: file conflicts in libsmokeqt1 libsmokeqt-dev libqt-perl

2005-01-05 Thread Steve Langasek
ok, here's the current status of this particular bug:

- libqt-perl has been fixed in unstable to build-depend on libsmokeqt-dev
- libsmokeqt-dev comes from the kdebindings source package
- kdebindings build-depends on gij
- gij is unavailable on mips and mipsel (due to the xgot/multigot problem on
  those platforms)
- therefore, the current libqt-perl will never be built on those
architectures, remain perpetually out-of-sync, and the fix will not
  propagate to testing.

The proper solution here is probably to continue using the bundled smokeqt
code on mips/mipsel, and build-depend on libsmokeqt-dev on the other
architectures. This is certain to last through the sarge timeframe, as
fixing gij for mips(el) is a post-sarge task.

Thanks,

uploading kde-i18n to give time for NEW processing

2005-01-05 Thread Adeodato Simó
Hi Noèl,

since kde-i18n 3.3.2-1 introduces new languages, and so new packages,
it may be advisable to upload it already to give some time for NEW
processing to happen (unless kde-i18n is given special treatment and
NEW processing happens faster, which I'm unaware of).

the version in people.d.o/~noel is targetted at unstable, not
experimental, but since (a) it depends on kdelibs = 3.3.1 (not
3.3.2), and (b) it seems reasonable to expect 3.3.2 kde packages being
uploaded before NEW processing happens, it seems like a safe bet to
  upload that.

  opinion, comments?

  thanks,

Bug#288779: kdebase-bin: Error when using US international keyboard layout

2005-01-05 Thread Emmanuel Halbwachs
Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 4:3.3.1-3
Severity: important

Hello,

I file against a bug which I already met in the recent past
(#279570). This bug was fixed but is now back in town :

At work, on a machine with an US keyboard, I use KDE with two
keyboard layouts :

- US (for shell input)
- US international (for french text input with accents)

Each time I want to switch to the US international layout
(with the Ctrl-Alt-K shortcut) :

- the kxkb icon in the miniature box is err

- my $HOME/.xsession-errors shows those lines :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-eh/us_intl.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type
Error loading new keyboard description

Aucun fichier ou r??pertoire de ce type means
No such file or directory.

For the previous bug #279570, the message was slightly different :

kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.4: undefined
symbol: init_keyboard_layout
Error loading new keyboard description

This bug prevent to type french or other accentuated language
input on an US keyboard, so I file this bug as important.
Feel free to modify this, of course.

I think this bug is easily repeatable : I observed it at work,
home and on my laptop (all three with up-to-date sarge) :
juste choose US international keyboard layout and switch
to it.

Feel free to ask me if you want more info or test.

Hope this helps and thanks for all the good work,

Emmanuel

Bug#288779: kdebase-bin: Error when using US international keyboard layout

2005-01-05 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Emmanuel Halbwachs [Wed, 05 Jan 2005 17:02:04 +0100]:

 Error loading new keyboard description

uhm, we are about to upload a new kdebase for a security fix. if we're
quick enough to spot what's wrong, we may get to include a fix in
  time.

first of all, I've tried to reproduce the bug in a clean chroot and I
was not able to. it works properly.

secondly, it's seems odd that the bug has reappeared, since the code
has not changed and the fix was included in one of the latest uploads.
I imagine the answer will be 'yes', but are all the packges updated to
  their latest versions?

third, could you please check with a newly created system users?
sometimes these problems are caused by bogus, old, configuration
  files...

thanks. I will try to reproduce again now.

if you could provide detailed instructions as how to reproduce from a

Hello,

Adeodato Simó a écrit :

third, could you please check with a newly created system users?

For shure :

# adduser --gecos Utilisateur Test --home /space/test test

(log into KDM as 'test')
(all proposed parameters at default values)

Same problem :

- icon shows err
- ~/.xsession-errors :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-eh/us_intl.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type
Error loading new keyboard description

Well, strange that you don't see this in your clean chroot.
I have the problem on three machines :

- work PC, sarge, fresh update of this morning - KDE 3.3
- laptop, sarge, updated yesterday - KDE 3.2
- home PC, sarge, updated yesterday - KDE 3.2

My laptop and home PC has french azerty keyboard, so I don't need
US intl layout, but I noticed that yesterday accidentally when my
wife wanted to type email in Spanish to her family ;-)
No problem with the Spanish layout, only with US intl.

This evening, I will test before and after the sarge update and mail
the results.

Thanks for bothering,

  not that I'm aware of.

I'm particularly interested in knowing if you automatically get two

OK.

I'm particularly interested in knowing if you automatically get two
configured keybord layout by default or you add them manually after
  kpersonalizer ends (in kcontrol).

OK. I'll give you what I do step-by-step :

Housekeeping for a fresh user creation :

bubulle:~# deluser --remove-home test
bubulle:~# rm -r /space/test
bubulle:~# rm -ri /tmp/*test*

User creation :

bubulle:~# adduser --gecos Test --home /space/test test
Ajout de l'utilisateur test...
Adding new group `test' (1000).
Adding new user `test' (1000) with group `test'.
Création du répertoire personnel /space/test.
Copie des fichiers depuis /etc/skel
Enter new UNIX password: test

Retype new UNIX password: test

passwd: password updated successfully

KDM restart in case of :

bubulle:~# /etc/init.d/kdm restart
Stopping K Display Manager: kdm.
Starting K Display Manager: kdm.

Note : My system is configured in French, so I roughly translate
in english what I see in the windows.

The KDE session :

(KDM greater window)
login : test
password : test

(Kpersonalizer starts)

Step 1 :
Choose your coutry : France
Choose your language : Français
 Next

Step 2 :
(touch nothing, all defaults)
 Next

Step 3 :
(touch nothing, all defaults)
 Next

Step 4 (themes) :
(touch nothing, all defaults)
 Next

Step 5 :
(touch nothing, all defaults)
 Finish

(KDE starts, Ktip windows, Error window about /dev/dsp permission)

Currently, I have a french keyboard attached. I can open a Konsole
and type with the french (XFree86 default) layout.
I type 'tail -f ~/.xsession-errors' in the Konsole.

I would like to use two keyboard layouts, so :

K menu KDE configuration center localisation and accessibility
keyboard layouts check box activate keyboard layout

By defaults, I have one active layout : us
select us_intl in available layouts add confirm

Now that I have more than one layouts enabled, an icon
with the US flag appears in the tray that indicate the current
active layout.

I the same time, in .xsession-errors :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-test/us.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type

Hmm... But, test in a new Konsole, I have the US layout.
If I check if this file exists :

bubulle:~# ls -al /tmp/kde-test/*.xkm
-rw-r--r-- 1 test test 9016 2005-01-05 19:50 /tmp/kde-test/us.xkm

OK, so the file seems to have been created immidiately after.

I can now cycle on the active layout with Ctrl-Alt-K (or by clicking
on the icon).

When cycling on us-intl, I have the error icon and in
.xsession-errors :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-test/us_intl.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type
Error loading new keyboard description

So I feel that the 'kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open...' message is
normal, as the file does not exist at the first place. But the second
one Error loading new keyboard description is not.

If I check :

bubulle:~# ls -al /tmp/kde-test/*.xkm
-rw-r--r-- 1 test test 9016 2005-01-05 19:50 /tmp/kde-test/us.xkm

I have only on file.

If I add another keyboard layout, say, spanish, with the same method
above and I confirm :

- the icon goes on the US flag (probably because it's the first
  layout)
- same .xsession-errors message :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-test/us.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type

whereas the file now exists (!)

If I hit Ctrl-Alt-K two times, I cycle throught us us_intl es
and I have :

- the spanish flag icon
- the spanish layout as I can type the upside-down ?, for example
- in .xsession-errors :

kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-test/us_intl.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type
Error loading new keyboard description
kxkb: WARNING: Unable to open /tmp/kde-test/es.xkm: Aucun fichier ou
r??pertoire de ce type

If I check /tmp :

bubulle:~# ls -al /tmp/kde-test/*.xkm
-rw-r--r-- 1 test test 10212 2005-01-05 20:07 /tmp/kde-test/es.xkm
-rw-r--r-- 1 test test 9016 2005-01-05 20:04 /tmp/kde-test/us.xkm

Well, that's all I can say for the moment :-/

I will now drive home and have lunch. I will be online on my home
laptop around 23:00.

Hope this helps,

the fix for CAN-2004-1158 (see the KDE Security Advisory [1]) is
compound of two patches: one for kdelibs and another for kdebase.

unlike kdelibs, which has the patch included as of kdelibs=4:3.3.1-3,
this issue has not been fixed for kdebase and an upload is pending.

Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.3.2-0pre1
Severity: minor

When I navigate to devices:/, konqueror shows Hard Disc [/sys] along with
my real hard disks. However, /proc, /dev, /dev/pts, /dev/shm and
/proc/bus/usb do not appear so there must be a list of virtual mounts
somewhere which /sys should be added to.

Here is the contents of /proc/mounts:
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
/dev/root / ext3 rw 0 0
none /dev devfs rw 0 0
proc /proc proc rw,nodiratime 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs rw 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/winxp ntfs
ro,noatime,nodiratime,uid=0,gid=0,umask=0222,nls=iso8859-1,errors=continue,mft_zone_multiplier=1
 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw 0 0

And /etc/fstab:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
/dev/hda2 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/hda3 noneswapsw 0 0

/dev/hdc/media/cdrom0 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto,umask=0077 0 0
/dev/sda1 /media/usb1 autorw,user,noauto,umask=0077 0 0
/dev/sda2 /media/usb2 autorw,user,noauto 0 0

/dev/hda1 /mnt/winxp ntfsdefaults,ro,umask=0222 0 0
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/play1 autorw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hdd2 /mnt/play2 autorw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hdd3 /mnt/play3 autorw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda4 /mnt/play4 autorw,user,noauto 0 0

While I have 3.3.2-0pre1 installed, I am fairly sure this bug is present in
3.3.1 and indeed for some time before that.

I would like to be completely free, software-wise, but do I have a choice in
this case, if a vendor site uses Java applets to fill forms?

Since konqueror does not rely on a mozilla-plugin, it should be able to use
any java interpreter. Kaffe is a free one but may have its limitation (I
never tried it):
Package: kaffe
Priority: optional

Maintainer: Ean R. Schuessler [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Architecture: all
Version: 2:1.1.4.PRECVS6-1
Depends: kaffe-pthreads | kaffe-jthreads

Description: A JVM to run Java bytecode
A virtual machine designed to execute Java bytecode. It performs
just-in-time code conversion from the abstract code to the host machine's
native code. This will ultimately allow execution of Java code at the same
speed as standard compiled code but while maintaining the advantages and
 flexibility of code independence.

KDE is not finding its base configuration files.
You can work around this by creating a symlink

Hello,
Thanks for your fast answer.
With your symlink kedit now works fine, but konqueror has always dupplicates
icon, its not very important.
Thanks you very much

Hmmm. Maybe I spoke a little bit too soon.

If I start kate from konsole, I get tons of messages like:
ASSERT: !m_doc-wrapCursor() in ../../../kate/part/katerenderer.cpp

Can anyone confirm?

kate always throws out reams of failed assertions to the console. I got
