Default browser

2005-03-08 Thread Stelian Iancu
Hello,
I have changed the default browser in KDE to be Mozilla Firefox instead
of Konqueror (from Control Center -> KDE Components -> Component
Chooser. Now the problem is that every time I open a link from an
external program (such as Thunderbird), it automatically opens first
Konqueror (but loads the link correctly in Firefox) and I have to close
Konqueror all the time. And this is annoying.

So, any idea how can I solve this?
Thanks!
Regards,
Stelian

Sorry about the cross-threading, it was a mistake.

Somehow my menus and file associations have been messed up in one user
account. How can I reset them? Moving .kde didn't seem to affect my menus.

cdrom module loading causes hangup

2005-03-08 Thread Aaron Frerichs
I tried posting this to the plain user list, but got no response, so
since I think it may be related to konqueror, I decided to try here.

---

I have a new Asus M5N laptop on which I installed Debian Linux. It
works nearly perfectly, except that it hangs for about 10-20 seconds
after I have been using KDE for around 2-3 minutes. I checked
/var/log/message and /var/log/syslog, and it seems to be trying to load
a bunch of cdrom modules, that I don't need.

Anybody have a clue as to what program is trying to load these modules?
And then, anyone have a way to stop the program from trying?

Here is a sample from /var/log/messages

---

Then after some more searching I posted this:

---

No ideas? Anyone? I found a couple messages saying that it may be the
KDE Audio CD Browser causing the hangup. See link:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2004/04/msg00183.html

I added the suggested lines to a file in /etc/modutils and ran
update-modules, but I am still seeing the same behavior. Maybe I
should contact a different list, such as the the debian-qt-kde list
that the above message was posted to? Any help would be appreciated.

At this point, I think I am going to try to disable the artsd server
and see if that is where the problem is coming from.
Thanks,
Aaron

---

Again, I got no responses, so, any ideas here? Disabling artsd did not
help. The computer still tries to load the cdrom modules after
konqueror is started, and it causes my machine to hang for 10-20
seconds.
Thanks,
Aaron

That's just plain wrong, seeing as how update-rc.d is the correct way to
update the symlinks to init.d. Before suggesting rtfm, you should have
rtfm'd yourself.

Bug#298602: RFP: klibido -- KDE usenet news binary grabber

2005-03-08 Thread Brian Kimball
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: klibido
  Version : 0.2.1.1
Upstream Author : Alessandro "Bauno" Bonometti <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://klibido.sf.net/
* License : GPL
Description : KDE usenet news binary grabber

Klibido automates the tedious task of grabbing binaries off
usenet that are split across dozens of posts.

The main features of Klibido are:
-automatic joining and decoding of multi-part posts
-multiple servers support, with priorities and fallback servers if some
articles are not available on some servers
-queue balancing: KLibido spreads the bytes load across servers with the
  same priority
-multiple download threads per server support, with the ability to add or
  remove threads "on the fly"
-KParts interface for previewing posts (.nfo, images, etc...) inside the
  program
-pause, resume, cancel, and prioritize downloads

Klibido is still in beta stage, and as such some components may not
work as expected and may even crash the program. However, the author states:

"if you treat it gently :-], it will work, and I've used it to download
two hundreds or so of Gigabytes without any major issue."

There's already a basic debian/ directory in the source
provided by Gonéri Le Bouder in 2001.

Or you could reinstall like others have told you, but it's not necessary. And
it's the `kdm' file, not `kde'.

Objective issue:

Maybe someone knows Matt Rogers and can asked him what the actual fix is.

apt-get --reinstall install

for the right package would work - but by the time you figured out which
package (kdm? - that filename is wrong, anyway) it was, you could have just
recreated the symlink. :-)

it's but a symlink to it's corresponding initscript (/etc/init.d/)
recreate it as a symlink to that service, and you should be set.
