I tried this test. Browser looking at ~/Desktop where Time Machine is recording a .wav file. Changing views does not trigger an update of the size. The only way to trigger such an update is to look somewhere else and then come back here, at which point I get a new snapshot of the ever-growing size. I'd be looking at other things then. Mandrake isn't Debian. Mandrake does lots of hacky, custom things (like automount, for example.) So does Ubuntu, for example, or any of several dozen other distros across the board. I'd say if this isn't some KDE version thing then it's probably some little hack that Mandrake does and Debian doesn't. famd says it detects changes in the file. Does changing the size constitute a "change" in the file to famd? I have no idea, and I'm not bored enough to go get the source and try to figure out the answer to that question. If you really want to make Debian behave the same as Mandrake in this respect, I'd say you've got yourself a bonafine adventure on your hands. I can't imagine that it could possibly be worth the effort, but to each his own hack, I say. I just did this to my Sarge workstation. The only difference I see is my preferences file, and I used deslect to do the upgrade, no warnings though. I only have Sarge official sources , plus the ~alioth.debian.org source line in my sources.list file. dist-upgrade using http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/
Folks, I want to install KDE 3.4 on my PC using Debian apt-get. I followed the wiki at http://wiki.debian.net/?Kde34 added the line deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ ./ to /etc/apt/sources.list and did a dist-upgrade. I get the following message: The following packages have been kept back: kdenetwork-kfile-plugins kernel-image-2.4.18-bf2.4 nvidia-glx 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded. The packages kernel-image-2.4.18-bf2.4 and nvidia-glx are held back manually by my selections, but if I try apt-get install kdenetwork-kfile-plugins I get a message ending The following packages have unmet dependencies: kdenetwork-kfile-plugins: Depends: kdelibs4 (>= 4:3.4.0) but 4:3.3.2-6 is to be installed FYI, I have done apt-get install kde and the version of the kde metapackage is 5:44. I think my existing KDE installation 3.3.2 is whole and unbroken. apt-get install -t unstable kde brings the message kde is already the newest version. My /etc/apt/preferences file has the following settings: Package: * Pin: release a=stable Pin-Priority: 500 Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 600 Package: * Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 50 What must I do to upgrade to KDE 3.4 on my PC? Menus
Can someone either describe, or point me to a description, of the KDE menu system, please? I installed Crossover last week, and it failed to create any menu entries (though it created Desktop shortcuts). It seems to me that I should be able to just copy those shortcuts to the correct place in the menu structure, if I even knew where that was. Also, iirc, KDE used to have a program that would find .desktop files and add them to the K menu. If it still exists, kubuntu doesn't put it onto a menu. Re: Re: Re: Konqueror (in file manager) doesn't automatically refresh file list and stats.
Hi All, I tried creating a new test user, (as David Pye suggested) as a way of safely auto-generating the local .kde settings, but this made no difference to the 'Konqueror not refreshing' problem. If I cp a file (using Konsole) to a directory currently being viewed by Konqueror, then it appears, and if I rm that same file, it disappears, but if I view a directory in Konqueror that contains a file being downloaded, Konqueror shows no changes. If I dual-boot into my old Mandrake 10.0 system and do the same thing, it shows every .1Mb increment in the file size during the download. As if in real-time. Anyone else have any ideas?
