Bug#311733: Kfind Problem
Regarding 311733: A suggestion on one of the forums was to stop fam service in run level 2. I stopped fam in run level 2 and kfind works perfectly. Regards, jimbo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
KDE apps up for adoption
Hi all, Since my spare time is not what it used to be, I have put a few KDE apps up for adoption this morning: kdbg (#315336) -- graphical debugger interface kprof (#315337) -- visual tool to help analyse profiling results kbear (#315340) -- graphical ftp client for KDE If anyone is willing to take these up it would be appreciated. More detailed notes on each package are included below. Ben. kdbg: This KDE package is relatively straightforward to maintain, and upstream is active. kprof: This KDE package is small and relatively straightforward to maintain. Although upstream is not nearly as active as it used to be, the package itself remains useful. An ability to dive into Qt/KDE code and fix it is preferable, since (due to upstream's inactivity) you will need to do bugfixing yourself. kbear: This KDE package is not easy to maintain, mainly because upstream has been silent for some time and there have been some rather nasty and hard-to-find bugs that needed fixing. Nevertheless, people still use this package so it would be nice to have someone look after it. You will need a good understanding of Qt/KDE programming, since you'll probably end up doing all the bugfixing yourself and the code is somewhat complex. The version currently in debian is 2.1.1. Upstream released 3.0alpha a couple of years ago, but I chose not to upload an alpha release. I'd also recommend against uploading 3.0alpha to the new maintainer without some very thorough testing and inspection, since all signs suggest that a beta/final release is never likely to appear. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Kde-KNotify Problem
Background-After an apt-get dist-upgrade from woody to sarge-stable encountered many dependency issues. Xserver-xfree86, kdm and many others were not installed. Ater manually installing xserver-xfree86, kdm and the kde package files and getting X started, I've these unresolved issues: I can login to kde with 18-20 KNotify messages popping up and if I select and click OK on the notification popup or try to close out ktips, the system freezes up or at best operates in super slow motion before anything I select will initiate any action. I actually timed how long it takes something to activate and it's two minutes minimum. Once I'm in the superslow motion state, kde quickly stops working and I'm left with init.d/kdm to restart things. I've learned to work around this annoying issue by just not selecting the knotify messages or not closing the ktip box. I can run my Mozilla browser and mail client that way but its not something I can live with indefinately. There also are 8 blue gear shaped icons in the panel which wont do anything when selected or clicked. Still haven't seen what the first KNotify message says. Searched for knotify at Debian and googled with many hits but none are exactly the same as my situation. I've tried some suggested solutions and none have helped or changed anything in any way. I would most appreciate any explanation of what's happened here and how I might fix it. As a newbie, I'm at the limit of my debugging ability and need some help to proceed. Thanks in advance for your consideration. I hope this post get's to the right location. I'm not confortable replying using mail instead of a news client. Tryed many times send posts to this newsgroup without see then reach destination. Ok. My login manager is KDM, i've configure it to use 2 X session, the 1º in tty7 and the 2º in tty8, but the second session never starts at bootup, I use to start it when I want to explore other desktop managers like fluxbox or so... but not want to close kde session. ;) The new menu item (switch user) doesn't let me begin new sessions, just let me swith users allready logged... Is the start new session function really gone? or is it because 3.4.1 is not fully finished? Wow do we start new X sessions now ? Thanks a lot guys Amarok

kdevelop versus kdesdk-misc 3.4.0
Hello, list. I'm just wondering when we might expect a kdevelop-plugins package that kdesdk-misc doesn't conflict with. I know it's unofficial and all, but does anyone have any idea how long this conflict is going to last? Will a new kdevelop be uploaded to experimental, alioth, or somewhere else in the near future, or is the plan to wait until KDE 3.4.0 enters unstable (which, if I understand correctly, will be a long time while a C++ ABI transition takes place)? Has anyone solved the problem some other way? Thanks in advance. Peace, Brendon pgpCVNONk1rLB.pgp Description: PGP signature
