 Hi,

KDE packages in unstable are undergoing a transition that makes them

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

howto pack kdm-themes

2005-08-24 Thread Bastian Venthur
Hi qt-kde-devs,

I've packed[1] the kdm-theme-krystal[2] theme for kdm. It was rejected by
ftp-master for the following reason:

cite:
---
Hi Maintainer,

while looking at your package in NEW i decided to reject it.

Please contact debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org for information how
to proceed with your package, that kde-maint-group is working on
a package infrastructure for such theme packages, as for example
these kdm-themes contain multiple files that are shared between all
packages, which can be avoided.
---

could you please give me a hint, what's wrong with the package or sponsor
the upload (with a hint, that this package is approved by qt-kde-dev) if it
is OK?

Kind regards

Bastian

This is expected. It is due to the gcc 4.0 transition currently taking place
in unstable. If you want to install juk in unstable, you will need to get
libtunepimp-bin and any other packages it complains about from testing. This
may not be possible because some other package you have may depend on the
transitioned libtunepimp-bin. If that is the case, your only option to use
juk would be to switch back to testing for the time being.

Bug#324867: KPPP should direct user to /usr/share/doc/kppp/README.Debian

2005-08-24 Thread Nate Bargmann
Package: kppp
Version: 4:3.3.2-6
Severity: wishlist

In the default configuration of both kppp and pppd, kppp will fail with the
following mysterious output:

Aug 24 09:17:06 localhost pppd[10347]: The remote system is required to
authenticate itself
Aug 24 09:17:06 localhost pppd[10347]: but I couldn't find any suitable secret
(password) for it to use to do so.
Aug 24 09:17:06 localhost pppd[10347]: (None of the available passwords would
let it use an IP address.)

In the lower pane of the window titled kppp's diagnosis (just guessing):
it says, Unable to provide help. At the very least, it would be
useful for kppp to direct the user to /usr/share/doc/kppp/README.Debian
for an explanation of the (likely) problem.

Package: kdelibs-data
Version: 4:3.3.2-6.1
Severity: important

Hi,

I upgraded my version of kdelibs-data today, and when I rebooted, I found that a
number of things were broken:

- The k-menu had no application entries at all (I tried running update-menus and
kbuildsycoca to fix this, but that made no difference)

- The quicklauncher in kicker had lost it's buttons for the applications that I
usually have there.

- When I ran konqueror, the part on the left, which can show the directory
structure, the bookmarks, the services, etc, was gone.

- When I tried to configure konqueror from the settings menu nothing happened.

- When I tried to run kcontrol, I got the kcontrol window with nothing in it -
ie the background picture on the right was there, listing my kde version,
username etc. However, there were no entries listed on the left in any of the
tabs for index/search/help

I reckon that there were probably more things wrong than these that I didn't
happen to find.

Downgrading kdelibs-data to the previous version solved all of these problems.

Thanks,

Helen

kdelibs override disparity

2005-08-24 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

kdelibs_3.4.2-2_all.deb: package says section is kde, override says libs.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

Thanks,

Helen

After an upgrade, KDE menus dissapear, and are not regenerated even if I rename
.kde.
Menu items in kcontrol and kinfocenter also dissapear, and I must indicate what
program
use when I click any icon on my desktop or file manager writting it (no menu
show). Konqueror seems to work well.

Thanks,

Helen

Bug#324894: no more installable on sid

Dunno if you are waiting for c++ transition completion, anyway current

one in the sid pool? That's just for notice.

This is expected. KDE, along with the rest of unstable is going through a gcc
transition. KDE will be uninstallable in sid until all of KDE has been
recompiled with the new gcc. arts and kdelibs were the first parts to
undergo the transition.

If you must have kde right now, your options are:
1) Downgrade to testing. If you can't deal with transitions like this you
probably shouldn't be running unstable to start with.
2) Install kdelibs and any dependencies from testing, install the rest of kde
from unstable.
3) Install kdelibs from unstable. Compile the rest of kde yourself.
4) Wait for a few weeks until the rest of kde in unstable has been built
against gcc 4.0.

This is due to the c++ transition, as you suspected. The current experimental
version is also not compiled with the new gcc, so that wouldn't help. You
can either rebuild the packages yourself with the new gcc, or you can wait a
few weeks until kde has made it through the transition.

I think the one (Josh) that closed this bug didn't actually read the bug at
all. From what I read, the bug in question is a wish to have the help file to
at least point to the document already placed in /usr/shared/doc instead of
the unhelpfull Unable to provide help

This bug has little to do with the current instability of kde in unstable.

Sorry, I couln't let this pass. I'm not the writer of the original bug, but I
think Josh was a bit too quick with his fingers, and maybe ow the writer an
apologie.

Incomplete upload found in Debian upload queue

2005-08-24 Thread Archive Administrator
Probably you are the uploader of the following file(s) in
the Debian upload queue directory:
  arts_1.4.2-4.diff.gz
  arts_1.4.2-4.dsc
  arts_1.4.2-4_all.deb
This looks like an upload, but a .changes file is missing, so the job
cannot be processed.

If no .changes file arrives within 23:29:15, the files will be deleted.

If you didn't upload those files, please just ignore this message.

When would be a good time to go to the trouble of resubmitting the bug
(assuming I don't forget about it)?

Apologies, this bug of yours was closed by mistake. As can be seen in
http://bugs.debian.org/324867, it's open again, and we'll try to fix
it in the next upload, or perhaps the following one.

  Cheers,

arts override disparity

2005-08-24 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

arts_1.4.2-4_all.deb: package says section is sound, override says libs.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

Re: problems starting KDE

2005-08-24 Thread cbergmann
Hi,

I remember having a similar problem some time ago: On start, KDE would freeze
in the initializing screen. I am not shure about the background with mouse
pointer and the .xsession-errors file, though.

However, I solved this problem by removing some leftover KDE session file. I
am not sure which file it really was, but as it is a fresh install, just
remove the .kde subdirectory in your home directory. You could also try
starting KDE as another user, as these files are stored in the home
directories.

Hope this helps!

Regards Clemens

3. After I enter my login and password, the splash screen appears.

4. Splash screen stays at the Initializing system services stage for
about 2 min and then (without passing the rest) I see the background
with a mouse pointer. That's it.

5. After killing the X with Ctrl+Alt+Bsp the .xsession-errors file reads:
